Bagger 288

Adds a Bagger 288-style bucket-wheel excavator for continuous strip mining.
The machine digs loose materials at the wheel, buffers them internally, and outputs them through four rear loose ports (A–D).

Build

  • Toolbar category: Terraforming
  • Cost: 500 Vehicle Parts III, 750 steel, 200 rubber.
  • Needs: 30 workers, Maintenance II (22/mo), 10 MW electricity.

How to use

  1. Research "Bagger 288 excavator", then place the machine from the Terraforming toolbar with the dig face toward the ore face.
  2. Connect loose conveyors to output ports A–D on the rear.
  3. Open the machine inspector:
    • Status — why the machine is idle or what it is doing (power, workers, full buffers, travel finished, mining, …).
    • Travel distance — how far (in tiles) the chassis may advance while mining this strip (0–200).
    • Reverse when distance reached — after hitting the limit, reverse and keep mining on the way back instead of stopping.
    • Traveled forward — progress so far on the current strip.
    • Max yaw left / right — dig sector limits (22°–150° per side). Mining and aiming stay inside this arc.
    • Show dig arc — world overlay of the current dig sector (two rays + front arc).
    • Extended ports — wider rear sleeve so ports C and D sit one tile farther out (easier conveyor spacing). Saved with the machine and blueprints; default is the standard sleeve.
    • This session — whole units stored to the internal buffers since the machine was loaded.
  4. New mined products are assigned to a free output port A–D automatically. You can still change or clear the mapping. A warning icon (and a notification) appears on buffers that have no port assigned; those products will not leave. (works like ore sorter)

Notes

  • Digging pauses when output buffers are full; it resumes when there is room again. Finished / waiting does not draw the 10 MW mining load.
  • Increasing travel distance or enabling reverse unsticks a machine that stopped at the travel limit.
  • The rear sleeve stays at the original build position; the chassis crawls forward and extra tube segments appear.
  • Digging does not go below the terrain height the bagger stands on.

Changelog
- More reliable mining and travel; buffers keep unloading during power loss.
- Maintenance and save/load polish.

0.7.6
- Move the Bagger 288 research node.

0.7.5
- Travel distance can be set below already traveled; the chassis backs up to the new limit (still mines along the way). Reverse-after-max does not then pull the machine to 0.
- Planner button returns the chassis to the build pose and sets travel distance to 0.
- Fix HUD travel-exhausted notification stacking after save/load.

0.7.4
- Inspector status line (paused, workers, maintenance, power, full buffers, travel exhausted, moving, mining).
- No 10 MW draw while Finished or Waiting; belts can still drain buffers.
- HUD notifications when travel distance is exhausted and when a buffered product has no output port.
- Auto-assign a new mined product to the first free port A–D (or the least-used port). Clearing all ports stays cleared.
- Session mined total in the inspector (resets on load).

0.7.3
- Update 3D model.

0.7.2
- Fix leftover blocked tiles at the rear after demolishing a bagger that had advanced while mining.

0.7.1
- Update ru localization.
- Optional extended rear ports model (wider sleeve; C/D shift one tile); toggle in inspector; saved and copied with blueprints.

0.7.0
- Dig-arc limits: set max tower yaw left and right (22°–150°); mining and aiming stay inside that sector.
- Optional dig-arc world overlay (two rays + front arc); toggle in the inspector; saved and copied with blueprints.
- Planner UI: yaw left/right on one row, horizontal divider, spacing around travel and dig-arc controls.
- Rear conveyor ports A–D sit on a sparse aft layout row (storage-style perimeter), not inside solid construction cubes.

0.6.1
- Planner UI: traveled distance and travel-distance controls on one row; reverse toggle below.
- Travel-distance controls stay fixed when the traveled value changes width.
- Localized tile plural forms.

0.6.0
- Localization from Translations/ (en.json, ru.json); player-facing strings no longer hardcoded.
- Fix blueprint copy wiping A–D port bindings and travel settings.

0.5.0
- Bagger 288 bucket-wheel excavator: dig, buffer, and export via rear ports A–D.
- Research under Ultra-large vehicles; build from Terraforming toolbar.
- Travel distance / reverse-after-max controls, workers, Maintenance II, power.
- Custom toolbar icon and mod thumbnail.
