In most other cases, I can pro-actively cache stuff I'm going to need, e.g. Water, Iron Ore, then use a Transport (or direct input) to move it into where it is needed. But I can't do that with the Shipyard. There, I can only do it re-actively, so that once the need actually happens, and never before that point in time, my trucks will start to moving the stuff. I can try to stockpile it in Storages that are close to the Shipyard, but that lacks the dedicatedness of an actually connected storage.
Obviously the Shipyard can need a lot of things for all sorts of situations, so I think it's best to limit these inputs to the 8 or 10 or so most commonly needed things, rather like the tier-2 Vehicle Building, and then still rely on re-active trucking for everything else.
What *is* needed?
Mainly Iron, Steel, tiers of Electronics, for repairing or upgrading the Ship. Diesel we can already input. Also tier-1, 2, 3 and 4 Construction Parts to upgrade Map Nodes.
Add inputs to the Shipyard for most commonly used supplies
