Geology tool in layer mode

It's hard to estimate just how much material of different kinds exist at any point in the map. The layer mode is great for a generic overview, but I would like to suggest that while you're in layer mode you could click on something (or hover over it) and get geology report on the composition of that tile.

Waste 1m
Rock ?m
Alternatively, make a looking glass tool that displays all the information over a bit wider area with both visuals and numbers.
This would be useful to measure out the depth of ores and check for minerals and sand covered with water, without cluttering the screen with numbers everywhere.
