As the factory grows, the original location of a Mine Control Tower maybe become obsolete and need to be moved. It would be ideal to have a "Move" option in the MCT interface. This would allow me to set the new location of the tower, and keep all the vehicles assigned to the original. Once placed and built, it would automatically move the assigned trucks and copy over the designated area.
The problem this solves is that when I copy an existing tower and place it down, it immediately assigns trucks up to the same number as the original. But, I want to copy it to keep all the import/export assignments the same, not assign new trucks. As these new trucks are assigned, they sometimes are pulled from other jobs, delaying that transport job. By the time all the dust settles, and I've deleted the original, both the original trucks are off on long trips dropping their loads, and the new trucks have cancelled needed jobs they were doing.
"Move" function for buildings like Mine Control Tower
However, it could be like recycling the trucks. A move would let you place a tower in the new location (with no setting so the new tower is inactive to trucks and excavators) which then be available to be built.
Once built, vehicles would switch to the new tower, all settings would be moved over, and the tower would activate at the same time that the old building would have its settings cleared and be marked for removal.
"You can't move a building irl" isn't the point, he's essentially asking for the ability to TRANSFER control of a mining area smoothly from an old building to a new one without eg. vehicles being redesignated from random ones. That's definitely possible in real life, and it's a good idea.
"just a copy paste would suffice.... You cant move a building IRL ;) "
You can't copy and paste buildings in real life neither. Video games are fictional. Comparing real life to fictional games should be a long dead debate in 2024.
Being able to move mine buildings seamlessly is something I've encountered a few times in my playthroughs. The game almost does this, but there's one part missing. The CTRL+C copy functionality already copies the number and types of assigned vehicles, the allowed dump types, the notifications (and probably the import and export routes but I haven't tested it). The only thing it's missing is copying the assigned zone. If the copy functionality included the control zone, then that would allow very easy movement of a mine control tower to a new location, by copying all the settings of the existing one, building a new one, then destroying the old one.
AND you could use this technique for the stacker, too.
Should be movable without loosing construction material and could be faster than just dismantle and rebuild.
