Stand out in the train game scene by using the truck logic and job system for moving full and emptied rail cars to and from producers and consumers without just having the loco sit there.
Just like how we make Excavators and Trucks in a ratio, we would add locomotives if there is logistics delay, and cargo wagons if there are unfilled station slots. this would also need a railyard area for idle wagons. maybe even a Turnstile locomotive bay for resting locos
Train Network operate with switcher style
This is exactly what I was looking for.
I'd much rather see 1 very busy locomotive hauling lots of different cargoes than having a fleet of idling 1-4 trains sitting in a train yard the size of a city waiting for stockpiles to empty or fill up. That aesthetic is fine for Factorio, but not for Captain of Industry.
Allowing for both modes would be even better. Use a switching style for most things, but allow for dedicated unit trains (a coal drag, for instance).
The LTN mod from factorio comes to mind, With Depos for unassigned trains, that then get assigned haul jobs as demand is created. Also reduces how many sidings you need at Load and unload stations since they don't potentially need to have space for all trains in a Line to wait their turn.
