Train tech right now feels a bit weird to integrate. I found myself have several super length conveyers by the time it came around, and just shrugged at it and kept using conveyers. Had the same problem in Satisfacotry.
To help deal with this problem I'd suggest breaking the train tech into multiple tiers alongside making tracks use Iron instead of steel.
Steam would be available quite early, unlocked after yellow construction parts but before Lab 1. The train depo would be built with yellow parts. Trains would be built with Iron and white vehicle parts.
Diesel would be unlocked later, probably around where it is now. Require parts to upgrade the train depo to what it costs now. Keep the same costs for the trains.
Steam and Diesel locomotives may need some balance changes for this, but steam would still need to be good enough to use.
Tier train tech
I agree, trains just missing something. It requres soooo much space and resources to make constant even 300 ore/60
Satisfactory trains are actually super good - they do not need any fuel supply, they can have big troughput, you can elevate them above everything and have unrestricted pathing in sky :)
Make the Troughput beter!
I just think the troughput is just not good at all. one cart can only hold double of what a default truck can. The Mass on infrastructure you need to do for a Train System is not worth, if you just place one Conveyerbelt and be finished. In every other Automation Game A Train System peaked where you needed a Constant High troughput of Resources over a Distant where the Maintanance or Fuel consumption is better with a Train.
Currently to have a Higher Troughput then just belts you need huge space for the Stations the tracks und multiple Trains with 10 or more cargo wagons. which is just absurd Infrastructure for transportation. Feels just not worth it.
Also needing ~8days to unload a wagon ist just stupid. Trucks just do it instantly and the trains just need a week to unload/load on one module. Make it Faster make it Worth building Train-networks.
