Retaining walls are one of the few late-game constructions that still require iron. It would be helpful if they had an alternate recipe using steel, like all iron recipes. This would reduce dependency on iron in the endgame, where steel is more abundant and iron is mostly phased out. Small excavators and tree harvesters also still require iron, but building these in the late game is very uncommon.

Maybe a taller version that requires steel. Current version is 5 high, steel version maybe 8 or 10? Doubling the required materials of course.

height 10 would be fantastic for a steel recipe.
Also while on the topic of walls, allow partial mining designations to dig/fill cleanly on the backside of the wall. Its frustrating when I accidentally construct a wall not perfectly flush with a 4x4 mining designation.
