The game gets a lot of it's appeal from having cute little vehicles going around and terraforming everything.
It would be a great effect to have excavators get out of a hole or lift itself over a pipe. Like this: https://g.co/kgs/A2e2KCQ
Even if they'd just do something funny instead of standing there, waiting for a truck to come.
