It would be useful to transport unsorted cargo by conveyor belts and trains. Additionally, these cargoes could be stored in bulk warehouses and unloaded onto a stack using a stacker. A sorting entrance for unsorted cargo would also be necessary.
Unsorted cargo
You can unsort cargo into a conveyor belt today by combining two (or more) sorted belts. I've abused this trick to alternate materials on a mixed belt before... But if you are feeding into a typed receiver then you need to use sorters to sort again before you store.
Granted it doesn't help with trains, and I've never used the stacker, but it is possibly to mix types within the same class (rock and dirt for example) into a common belt.
I agree with unsorted cargo. I just started the game a week or so ago, and one of my main issues so far, is how you can't store multiple ores in one box. Like, the excavator can do it, the truck can do it, the sorter can do it, so why can't the storages and trains? It would make life a lot easier, if you didn't have to build sorters everywhere.
I finally just got myself some trains, and now it's honestly even more evident, how it's lacking a feature for either "multiple" or simply "unsorted". I'm trying to dig coal at the end of the train route, and of course rock and dirt comes along. So now I have to constantly check which of them is full, so I can change what the train carries in the 10 wagons, which is a pain... Instead of it just being able to carry unsorted and be done with. .
