Dev's need to allow the players to select their preferred currency. Dollars, Pesos, Euros etc.
Then multiply the Unity by a conversion factor to get a realistic number. Example 10 Unity could equal 100 dollars or 1000 dollars etc.

Unity represents people's mood, the vilingness to work overtime, nightshifts, far from main island and theirs home and to carry heavy (and sometimes dangerous) materials by foot (or with wheelbarrows). Money has not that much sense in small society and would make invalid suggestion that you could trade with them with other settlements (well, you can "buy" some people from them, but with money it smells with slavery).

Also, Unity cap is important difficulty adjuster. It makes no sense to put cap on money. And if Unity wouldn't have cap, you could accumulate so much, that you could completely ignore this game mechanic. I am against this suggestion.
