In some cases, when connecting closely spaced buildings (one tile between them), it's necessary to use elevators to move the conveyor belts outward. However, space near the ports is often missing from the model. To avoid having to drag the conveyor belt around the building, it would be convenient to have an elevator and a hoist facing backwards.
elevator with an input and output directed in the same direction

I was confused at first, but I think I get it now: let's say you have two input or output belts for a building and you want them to come from/go in the same direction, and you only have one space to work with. The game in its current state requires you to have one belt circumnavigate the building. The request would let you elevate and reverse the belt in the given space, letting them be stacked.
A niche application to be sure, but I do think it would be a nice addition to have this option for niche cases, especially since the top of the elevator model currently extends higher than the belt to which it is attached.
Are you talking about something like a "C"? I actually opened a suggestion about that today. xD
