# Suggestion: Underground rail network with a tunnel boring machine (TBM)
Hello to the whole team,
I would like to propose a feature that, in my opinion, would considerably improve rail networks while keeping the realistic spirit of **Captain of Industry**.
## The current problem
Today, when you build a large rail network, the most efficient solution is often to completely flatten the mountains. In the long run, the map ends up almost entirely flat, which makes a large part of the relief disappear and reduces the appeal of the geography.
I would like there to be a credible alternative to massive earthworks.
## My proposal
Add a **Tunnel boring machine (TBM - Tunnel Boring Machine)** able to dig real rail tunnels through the mountains.
The goal would not be to replace earthworks, but to offer a new solution, more expensive and more technical.
## How it works
* Construction of a tunnel portal.
* Deployment of the tunnel boring machine.
* The player draws the route of the tunnel.
* The tunnel boring machine advances slowly and digs progressively.
* Excavated spoil is produced and has to be hauled away.
* Once finished, the tunnel is ready to receive the train tracks.
## To keep the game balanced
The tunnel should never be an easy solution.
It could require:
* a lot of steel,
* a lot of concrete,
* many mechanical components,
* high power consumption,
* specialized workers,
* regular maintenance.
That way, the player would really have to choose between:
* flattening a mountain,
* going around the obstacle,
* building a bridge,
* or investing in a tunnel.
## Terrain realism
To preserve the relief, several constraints could be applied:
* a minimum thickness of rock above the tunnel;
* a risk of collapse if the tunnel is too close to the surface;
* the impossibility of digging through certain terrain without advanced research;

# Suggestion : Réseau ferroviaire souterrain avec tunnelier (TBM)
## Fonctionnement
* Construction d'un portail de tunnel.
* Déploiement du tunnelier.
* Le joueur trace le parcours du tunnel.
* Le tunnelier avance lentement et creuse progressivement.
* Les déblais sont produits et doivent être évacués.
* Une fois terminé, le tunnel est prêt à recevoir les voies ferrées.
* beaucoup d'acier,
* beaucoup de béton,
* de nombreux composants mécaniques,
* une forte consommation d'énergie,
* des ouvriers spécialisés,
* une maintenance régulière.
Ainsi, le joueur devrait réellement choisir entre :
* raser une montagne,
* contourner l'obstacle,
* construire un pont,
* ou investir dans un tunnel.
* épaisseur minimale de roche au-dessus du tunnel ;
* risque d'effondrement si le tunnel est trop proche de la surface ;
* impossibilité de creuser certains terrains sans recherches avancées ;
* e
