Inconsistent cursor appearance with custom Windows cursor settings

Issue description

First off, I just want to say I absolutely love Captain of Industry. I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing it and it’s incredibly well designed good job on the great work.

After the most recent update, I noticed the game now uses a custom "hand" mouse pointer in some places. The problem is that it clashes visually with my Windows system cursor settings, making it quite distracting to use because of its inconsistency.

I have accessibility settings enabled on my system (older bad eyes):

  • Cursor size set to 2 (larger than default)
  • Custom cursor colour (for visibility)
  • DPI scaling set to 175%
  • Running at native resolution (2560x1600)
  • In-game UI scaling set to 130%

As I move the cursor around, it switches between my system cursor and the game’s custom one. The size and style don’t match, which makes the transition really noticeable. I'm not sure if it's just the size difference or the visual style, but something about it feels off.

This seems to be a recent change—I don’t remember seeing this behaviour before the latest update, and I’ve spent quite a bit of time with the game (400h+).

Expected Behaviour

Ideally, the game should either consistently use the system cursor or offer an option to disable the custom one. Matching the cursor’s appearance and size would help avoid the visual disconnect.

If there’s a configuration option setting or workaround (or even manually in a text file) to force native cursors, I’d be more than happy to try that in the meantime, I tried all the DPI settings of Windows in the compatibility setting of the main exe, thinking it would fix the large "hand" mouse pointers but didn't help and only screwed up the game rending size anyways.

Thanks in advance—your help is greatly appreciated!

Note: Unfortunately, I can't provide a screenshot, as mouse cursors are typically excluded from screenshots on Windows.

Reproduction steps

  1. Set Windows cursor size to 2 and choose a custom colour
  2. Set Windows DPI scaling to 175%
  3. Launch the game at 2560x1600 with 130% in-game UI scaling
  4. Move the mouse around the UI and observe cursor changes
