Issue description
If you take out a loan, and fail to make enough payments on it, the interest will be set to 0 and it will disappear over time. I don't know what the parameters are on that, but it feels like a feature. Like it's gone from a loan to a collections account, even though when the years run out, it'll simply forgive the remaining balance.
The issue? Once the interest is set to 0, then even if the amount paid is 0, that loan will be considered payed on every billing cycle- which will raise your credit reputation. This seems... wrong. Failing to pay collections won't improve credit scores in the real world, after all.
I would also like to note that I've had partial payments that exceed the interest charge (but don't meet the full amount due) also do this, and reduce the total amount the payment schedule will bill below the total remaining balance (by reducing years left without changing the payment), sometimes resulting in the underpayment being eventually forgiven (when missed payments don't bill it back, at least). Haven't confirmed that behavior lately, though.
Reproduction steps
- Take out a loan.
- Fail it until it goes into what I call 'collections', where it won't charge interest. I don't know what the exact conditions for this are, but it takes a small eternity. I've found this easiest to trigger by using a large-volume loan on a product for which production comes short of demand, like iron or steel when you have an undersized smeltery, then set a low priority on the trade dock. It does seem to be important to actually make at least a few payments, though they need not cover the interest; walling off or destroying the trade dock doesn't seem to (ever) trigger this.
- Destroy trade dock, wall it off, or otherwise ensure no cargo is delivered to it. My most recent method was to increase demand above production, and rock-bottom the trade dock's priority; that won't block other loans from getting paid.
- Launch the loan page and watch your reputation score rise as a payment fails!
