Issue description
Since updating to v0.8.5 (b598), Captain of Industry has become unstable on my system.
Prior to this update I had no stability issues with the game.
System
Captain of Industry v0.8.5 (b598)
Steam version
Windows 11 (Build 26200)
Lenovo Legion T5 26IRB8 (Model 90UUCTO1WW)
Intel Core i7-14700KF
NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB
32 GB RAM
Lenovo BIOS O5TKT3BA (17 Dec 2024)
Behaviour
The game typically crashes 3–4 times during approximately two hours of gameplay.
The crashes are not tied to a fixed interval.
I've observed two different failure modes:
The game crashes directly to desktop and can immediately be restarted.
The game freezes completely and cannot be closed (even from Task Manager). I have to log off Windows or reboot before I can launch it again.
The issue occurs on a mid-game save.
Initially I suspected it was related to zooming out or scrolling the map, but I have since seen crashes without those actions, so I don't believe they are required to trigger it.
Diagnostics performed
Steam files verified.
No WHEA hardware errors recorded.
System was stable before updating to v0.8.5.
I have not experienced similar crashes in other games.
Logs
The Player.log does not show a managed Unity exception before the crash.
Instead, it ends with a native stack trace repeatedly referencing:
nvgpucomp64.dll
destroyFinalizer
After the game crashes, the crash reporter itself throws a .NET exception related to System.Drawing, which appears to be a secondary failure rather than the original crash.
Windows Reliability Monitor reports:
Problem Event Name: BEX64
Exception Code: 0xc0000005
Fault Module: StackHash_bb44
