This Unity error log perfectly explains the root cause of the issue.
Your game asset archive files on the disk have been physically corrupted. Because the massive blueprint caused a hard crash right while actively communicating with the video memory, the game's main resource archive (resS) broke. The log clearly states: unable to read texture data, read operation returned value 2. Since the file is corrupted, the game physically cannot load the base rock texture (Rock-disrupted) into your graphics card, which results in black surfaces (source graphics texture is not initialized on the GPU). You need to repair the archive itself.
Follow these steps strictly in order:
Complete Clean up and Forced Repair via Steam
A standard file verification can sometimes skip corrupted sectors inside heavy archive files.
- Completely close Captain of Industry.
- In the Steam client, click Steam in the top-left corner -> Settings -> Storage.
- Find the drive where the game is installed, click the three dots ... on the right, and select Repair folder.
- Once done, go back to your Library, right-click Captain of Industry -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of game files. Steam will detect that the CAB-...resS archive is corrupted, delete it, and download a fresh copy (about a few gigabytes).
Reset the Graphics Engine via Launch Options
Since the log complains about texture initialization failure on the GPU, you need to force the graphics card to reallocate its memory:
- In Steam, right-click Captain of Industry and select Properties.
- In the General tab, look for the Launch Options field at the bottom.
- Type in the following parameter: -cleanConfig
- Launch the game once. It will reset all internal Unity shader bindings. If the game starts up fine, close it and delete this parameter from the launch options line so settings don't reset every time you boot.
The Radical Method (If Steam says "All files successfully verified" but textures are still black)
Sometimes Steam mistakenly reads a corrupted archive file as "healthy". In this case, you must delete the file manually:
- Go to the game's properties in Steam -> Installed Files -> Click the Browse button to open the game directory.
- Go into the Captain of Industry Data folder (or the similar internal asset folder).
- Type the following extension into the File Explorer search bar (top right): *.resS
- If you see a file that is 0 KB in size, or a file with a modification date that matches the exact minute your game crashed - delete it.
- Run the file integrity verification in Steam once more. Now, Steam is guaranteed to notice the missing file and will download a clean copy of the terrain textures.
