Failed to save the game

Issue description

The game popped up this error message when it tried to do an autosave, also i have random CTD when saving.

Does this happen only on this specific map, or do new games crash as well? If partition C: has not run out of free space, try this:

1. Add the Save Folder to Your Antivirus Exclusions
   The NullReferenceException during file writing is frequently triggered by Windows Defender or third-party antivirus software. During the autosave process, the security software locks the temporary file to scan it, causing the game's data stream to abruptly terminate into a null reference.
   Add the entire game directory to your antivirus exclusions list:
   C:\Users\tdm__\AppData\Roaming\Captain of Industry\

2. Reset Stuck Terraforming Tasks
   If the crash is caused by an internal simulation bug:

1. Load the previous working autosave (the one created 10–15 minutes prior to the crash).
2. Completely cancel all recently designated mining or dumping zones using the "Minus" (Cancel) tool, especially around retaining walls, bridges, and map borders.
3. Let the game run for 1–2 minutes on normal (1x) speed to allow the simulation to settle and process pending terrain tile updates.
4. Attempt to trigger a manual save under a completely new name.

3. Verify Game File Integrity
   If the core game material database itself is corrupted:

1. Open Steam -> right-click Captain of Industry -> select Properties.
2. Go to the Installed Files tab -> click Verify integrity of game files.

I added the save folder to exceptions.

was stable for hours then failed to save.
started a new game same map, this time after it failed to save it also hung on saving when I tried a manual save, tried alt-f4 no luck, tried ctrl-alt-del the game would not relinquish control of the window, had to use arrow and delete keys to stop the process. I can't figure out how to upload my save files, tried as .sav and .zip

no mods installed or in use.

2 GB is heavily bottlenecked. If the virtual memory (pagefile.sys) is set to system-managed, it may expand and exhaust all available disk space. Ensure at least 10–15 GB of unallocated space on the OS partition, or extend the volume.

Sorry thats a typo two TB not GB t and g are to close together.

Load into the map and hit spacebar to pause. Do not let time advance. Find every Rainwater Harvester you have built. Use the deconstruction tool to dismantle them entirely. Look closely at where your harvesters were positioned. If there are any mining, dumping, or leveling designations directly under or immediately touching those footprints, clear the designations. Once the harvesters are completely gone and the terrain tasks directly beneath them are cleared, attempt a manual save under a unique name. If the save goes through successfully, the corrupted pointer has been successfully purged. You can safely rebuild your Rainwater Harvesters, just ensure they are placed far away from active terraforming, mining, or dumping zones.

That worked for awhile but after about a day it tried to autosave and it crashed to desktop no error message.

I reloaded the last autosave and the cargo ships started pathing thru land in a direct route to the edge.
So i waited for all ships to dock, paused them, saved. after reload and unpausing them they worked normally.

Write the PC specification.

Thanks, i had already updated my MSI motherboard, it turned out my pc shipped with light load control on i switched it to intel default and it took care of 99% of the crashes, been playing for days and no crash or other bugs so u can close this one with my thanks!
