Issue description

Game is crashing so often that it is unplayable. It would even crash when in the main menu but more often it crashes when map is loaded. Sometimes it submits bug reports via crash reporting tool, sometimes it does not. I verified game files via Steam, I updated my NVIDIA drivers and I am attaching logs (which are often abruptly cut) and game save.

I have 4K laptop monitor (game resolution is set to 3840 x 2400, running in windowed mode) and 3 external monitors (1 via HDMI and 2 via USB-C).

Log entry from windows events viewer:

Reproduction steps

  1. Start game, set resolution to 3840x2400, window mode to Windowed, attach 1 HDMI and 2 USB-C monitors (not sure if that matters but thats my setup).
  2. Load attached save and try to play - it crashes within 5-10 minutes.

What's the CPU model?

You should attach log files from these folders:
%AppData%\Captain of Industry\Logs
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Mafi Games\Captain of Industry
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp\Mafi Games\Captain of Industry\Crashes

Thanks!

Please find attached 4 crash logs and some other logs from the requested folders.

These steps didn't help:

  • Disconnecting external monitors
  • Switching game resolution to 1920x1080
  • Switching window mode to Fullscreen

Thank you very much!! I think you saved me from a lot of other troubles too. After updating firmware on the CPU game crash (and other issues which I didnt think were related: rare chrome glitches, laptop reboots) seems to stabilize.

this might help someone, how to update Intel HX 13/14 CPUs mobile/desktop (CPUID of B0671 and B0671h), this helped me quite a lot: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/intel-how-to-update-your-microcode-for-intel-hx-13-14th-gen-cpus-laptops-mobile-easily.325403/

the method above helps by applying a patch to microcode each time windows boots, it requires CPU virtualization to be disabled. This helps if your BIOS manufacturer did not release a BIOS with latest microcode. This method isn't perfect (i managed to update my CPUID B0671 to microcode 0x12F, number of crashes/BSOD went down significantly) but it is better than nothing. Prefer patching CPU microcode via BIOS patch if possible.

If instability persists even after updating the microcode, it means that the crystal has already physically degraded, reduce the clock frequency a little.
