And maybe an upgrade to tier 2 that uses hydrogen idk

Fuel Gas / Diesel (but with pollution) / Hydrogen (expensive)/ Steam (innefective) / Electricity (very high-consuming) ... all of them with their ups and downs

Would some nice new ways to spend differently our resources

Not sure that hydrogen or other fuels would really fit... We don't use hydrogen stoves IRL because:

  1. Hydrogen is so light it tends to destroy its containment bottle,
  2. Hydrogen will burn a lot closer to solid surfaces than methane. You see those little holes on the burner of your gas range? A methane fire won't travel through them, a hydrogen fire will- and if the fire travels through them, the stove becomes a cannon, since the gas is mixed with air at an earlier point.

You'll also notice that while lots of places have municipal "natural gas" methane, it's all, well, gas- like hydrogen, it requires cryogenic temperatures to hold a liquid state. Standalone places, like where I live, will tend to use propane instead, since it can be held in liquid state with simple pressure, and has very similar burn characteristics to methane.

And we don't use diesel stoves IRL because it's not a gaseous fuel and diesel burners require a lot of special equipment to be done right, though if you have a "heating oil"-burning furnace, that's literally low-quality diesel. Steam... definitely ineffective for cooking, since it loses heat way too fast in transit, though you can heat it to truly scalding temperatures. Electricity, we already have the substation for that...

But yes, it would be nice to be able to provide our citizens with gas stovetops, not just electric.

In my opinion this idea is great!

Especially when you look further than cooking. Sure, gas will be used there, is will be electricity. But what about heating?

In my mind forms the chance for different kinds of districts heating. By coal, gas, steam, electrical, you name it.

By the way, in Germany there is a trent of installing gas heating which is H2 ready for when the network will allow it. But at the same time there are heat pumps, solar thermic heating on the roof and also district heating solutions. For example from trash burning. Could easily be implemented here by supplying a district heating module with steam, and you decide how to generate said steam
