Hydrogen Mega Excavator Infinite emptying

When I pause and unpause Hydrogen Mega Excavators they empty their inventory, meaning I can mine out areas that are totally isolated. Video attached. not a particularly useful exploit, but an exploit nonetheless.

It is by all excavators. Example: if it waits for the truck, you can command excavator to move (manually select the destination). At that moment the inventory will be cleared and excavator can mine again, and again and again ...

Mb in future will find a way to deal with it properly. Currently I don't use it, because I don't waste anything (:

We wanted to avoid leaving tiny piles of material on the ground, so the material is discarded

reedemthed3ad [discord] · 1 year ago

So it just deletes material instead of putting it in the shipyard or something?

Wouldn't be fun paying unity to pause an excavator for the instant transport. I think it's fine too

He is just saying that solving the free "teleport excavator contents to the shipyard",
by adding the requirement to pay with unity, wouldn't be a welcome change in the least.

reedemthed3ad [discord] · 1 year ago

ohhhh. I misunderstood.

I guess that's on par with paying unity to empty a storage when deconstructing to move contents to shipyard

eryk500 [discord] · 1 year ago

Yeah, but unlike paid teleportation of the contents of a storage building
(which is something one does relative rarely), this would affect the pausing of vehicles
(which might be important for micromanagement of vehicles in crisis situations,
where you might be tight on unity anyways; or sometimes you need that 1 extra worker,
to complete a critical build to keep your colony a float;
spending unity for something trival in such cases just seems wrong).

If a single worker on a vehicle is your problem, I think you got bigger issues lol

But yeah, I see your point. I just hate wasting resources.

Got it

Interesting I guess

Could be helpful in a funny way but since it deletes it, it can’t be used to collect resources

No way to have it hold on to the inventory as it moves to the next spot, then add to it with the next scoop taken?

reedemthed3ad [discord] · 1 year ago

Or just pause the vehicle with it in inventory and dump it into truck when unpaused?

randombruh27 [discord] · 1 year ago

By the way excavators already have the ability to move with material in their buckets. I'd think that pause logic works the same way as reassignment logic, but if changing one would mean changing the other, there'd absolutely need to be a difference between the two, as changing an excavator from a coal mine to an iron mine for example would cause the next truckload of material to potentially contain both ores, in turn needing explicit ore sorting settings temporarily.

If this wasn't the case, you could still do this exploit anyway by just reassigning excavators between worksites. And you're back at square one. I definitely don't think this to be anywhere near the priority of a lot of other items in their backlog

It is not a huge issue, just a curiosity. I would see pausing as separate from reassigning. Unassigning from a tower should empty the contents. Moving within a mine shouldn’t matter.
