Dumping trucks cannot get rid of the excess cargo

When specifying a dumping tile a lot of trucks get provisioned and when the tile is filled the rest of the trucks are just stuck and require manual emptying by spending unity.

There is no rock or dirt storage, so it's expected that trucks would unload the cargo at the shipyard like they normally do with other cargo.
They also could put it back into an ore sorter

Shipyard is "unlimited" and therefore it is used only in some specific cases (like removing smth with Unity). If trucks will be storing the dumping material in shipyard, then it will be OP and absolutely unbalanced.

Sorter is designed to only output materials, not as storage.

The best solution in your case will be to designate a big dumping area using Z shortkey. Just do something like on screenshot

You missed the whole point - there is no more dumping area, that it, all trucks are stuck with cargo. And there are no notifications about them being stuck, at least not for a short time until I noticed them visually.

Well, the devs won't allow storing this stuff (or anything really) in the shipyard automatically
(due to mining too much stuff or producing it), because that would be OP (like Just said).

But they should throw a notification that something is wrong
(assuming that this is not already happening).

Ah, I think I finaly get what you're saying:

  • assign new dumping designation;
    (pickups/trucks pickup cargo, but not enough
    to drain the suource storages to below absolutely full);
  • have that designation finished or un-marked;
    (pickups/trucks are now stuck with cargo, they can't get rid of).

Well, this still is not likely to get changed, because that's very abusable
to trans-load dumpable loose material into the shipyard, without using any unity.

I think that is what he's getting at: Dumping trucks cannot get rid of the excess cargo

That is exactly the case, for a single dumping tile game provisioned all of the available trucks, this would not be a big deal once I have the digging army but in the early game that could be fatal ...

There exists a manual switch for partially loaded trucks, maybe they could make something similar for dumping truck provision per tile

Ive seen that the game provisioned like 5 trucks, 2 of them were on the way and the rest were just stuck immediately after picking up the cargo

This essentialy is conflicting with this: No available dumping zone in 2 and 3 wide bridges

I'm not yet at the point where I can afford to build 2-3 tile bridges, but speaking from past Updates it might be more efficient to have a separate storage for dumping with a dedicated control tower and truck army assigned to said tower, this should prevent a lot of concurrency issues when too many trucks try to dump to same tile.

But my case is very early in the game where I try to mountain goat my way to the only oil source on the other side of the island, one tile at a time 🐸
