Alert never clears despite being under threshold for a long time

The alert of this tank never clears, despite it being constantly at 40, which is less than the threshold of >25% (>51).

It seems that the criterion for clearing the alert is <40, but with the new 'Output to belt/pipes only if above' slider set to 40, the alert will never clear 🙁

The criteria for clearing the alert should be tweaked or combined with a criteria that if it stays on or just under the threshold for a long time, it should be cleared.

Perhaps an accumulator which counts how far under the threshold the level is, and when it has accumulated enough "clearing points", the alert will clear. In this way the alert will not blink but still clear if the level is exactly at the threshold value for a long time (since it's also possible to set the output slider to 50% and the alert criterion at >50%, the tank staying at exactly 50% for a long time should also clear the alert). And with the proposed way, the alert will also clear quickly if the level falls far below the alert threshold, which would also be desired.

I also encountered that and I now think that the tank size is counted relative to the 'output to belt/pipe setting which somehow makes sense to me...

so essentially, the 'output to belt/pipe' now determines the new size of the tank/storage and the alerts derive from it - this could be a new way of generating alerts for smaller quantities and I think it should stay that way

I'd suggest the OP to restore the setting to max, or reconsider the alert threshold and work with the output setting to accommodate their needs accordingly 🙂 (say if the content is over 50 or 75 percent would make more sense here

I'm not convinced it should relative to the belt settings, because trucks and other events such as quick remove can also affect the level, and the alert should be able to handle those events also.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by your recommendation. The tank is part of an alert system which detects overflowing exhaust. I want it to react quickly when Seawater enters the tank. Blue at 40 works great for triggering, because it only requires 10 units to reach the alert threshold of 50. Analogously, the reason the yellow is at 60 is that I want the alert to clear as soon as the Seawater exits the tank, and if it's at 60, then it's only 10 units from the alert threshold. I was hoping the alert would go away when the level got back to 40, but it doesn't. It needs to be 39 or less.

I can work around it in this case by setting the blue slider at 20 instead of 40, but then it takes longer for the alert to go off when seawater enters the tank (because it needs to fill from 20 to 50 instead of from 40 to 50).

And if you're wondering why it's Seawater, it's because Exhaust won't go into tanks, so there is no way to set alerts for Exhaust.

well, I get what you're saying, I'm just thinking that it's possible that by setting the yellow to 60 you effectively change the size of the storage considered for the alerts - 60 becomes the high end meaning 40 is 66.667% of the full tank - in this case.

whether this is the intended behavior or not, is up to the devs to convey, but I was iterating that moving the yellow marker ('output to belt/pipes' threshold) higher would change the conceived size of the tank respectively - 80 would make 40 be 50% full and 120 would make 40 be 33% full, etc. etc.

I'm not saying I'm right, but why don't you test it and see if that's right or not and build your alert system accordingly ? and if I'm wrong - let the world know - continue the quest to change this behavior, if that's what you think it should be - far be it from me to deny anyone what they want (especially, as I'm not part of the development team, I'm just a player of the game, trying to help a fellow engineer understand how it works)

(not saying I have the answer)

That's not the case, because the alert still triggers when the level passes 50 the first time

But thank you for bringing the idea up
