Takes 8 minutes to load my save

Hello! I played a lot when U3 was released, and has been on a hiatus since 0.7.6. Yesterday I decided to return to my island and lead it to perfection. However, it takes a LOT longer to load my save now compared to when I played it 3 months ago. Something has happened with the updates following 0.7.6 that's affected my save file. The game stops responding when the load bar is full, but after waiting for 8 minutes it'll eventually load into my island. I can confirm that it's not just an issue for me, I sent my save file to another player on this Discord, and they had the same issue that the game froze when the loading bar was full but after about five minutes they were able to get into my island.

I did at first think that it would be a one-time issue if the save had to convert stuff to the newer updates, but even after saving the game, it still takes just as long to load the island.

I am playing fully vanilla on the latest, non-experimental patch (0.7.9). I'll try to upload my save file in a comment to this report so you can see for yourselves and hopefully identify the issue. Thanks!

What HW are you using?

I tried loading the pyramid on my PC from 2016. After 90s load bar at 100%, then another 90s single threaded until it showed the waste pyramid. 3min, bad, not as bad as yours ...
On 2nd load, 132s to play, thx to map cache. After save and load, ~130s.
For comparison, my actual game on YSNP, year 110, takes like 36s to load.

Dual 18-core Xeon E5-2696v3, 512GB RAM. Radeon Fury. PC used to be a beast, just not for gaming. Map generation it can still keep up with modern CPUs. 😎

I've got an old PC, i7-4770K, 32 GB RAM, Radeon RX Vega 64. So I'm not surprised that my game performance is poor at times, what I reacted at was that it was suddenly multiple times longer loading times now compared to just a few months ago on the same save

Was it from the map generation? Or can you specifically compare which old version did take how long? Might sound obvious, RAM wasn't full already?
I'm asking, because I did not observe load getting slower.

I didn't take note of exactly how long it took at 0.7.6, but it was significantly faster. RAM isn't full, I've tried closing all apps, rebooting PC and verifying game cache

Hopefully some dev will see this and loads your game with a profiler 😬 🧐

Yeah that's what I'm hoping. I figure that something in my save went weird when it updated
