Train cars not keeping filters after being built.

Trains
sargcj [discord] · 5 months ago

Just noticed this happening today, unusual. At first it seems like it duplicated trains filters in queue, then they just started coming out blank/no filter.
I have cleared the queue and tried again and it continues to do it. weird. Attached quick video for reference.
I also can't modify car filters after built. Not sure if this is intended, but it would be nice to be able to modify them after being built.

Are these trains going to a line or a network?

Network trains do their own filtering when they get a request to haul a particular product. A train line should keep and honour filters when built.

They go to a network in testing. But I had the first one or two stick to their filters.
I'm not sure how the network filtering works/logic behind it. I may try one on a line instead.
I have shared/multi item stations and loading and unloading doesn't match stations so I was trying to make a train per item for finer control/flow. There is no way to filter specific items etc in networks. The unfiltered trains seem to just sit in waiting bays instead of moving anything, even mixed loads.

I've had a look in the code & train networks seem to
completely ignore these filters when dispatching trains
(just like train lines do, since they care only about the filters set in the
train "line" "stop" / station group that the train about to go towards),
but then it might lead to trains getting stuck, because of them
not mathing the material that was supposed to be loaded
.

Therefore, having them erased on assignment seems somewhat
logical, as otherwise that could lead to trains getting stuck,
when transitioning from a train line to a train network.

And as for how networks behave, I think that I put it best there: https://discord.com/channels/803508556325584926/1260716327015022764/1496590335026139262

So I had a bunch of food pickup and drop off stations in a network. But to ensure trains dont load mixed, I was trying to use the car filters, since you can't do a train or network level filter of any kind. At first it was working just fine but then around the 3rd train I was making is when I noticed issues pop up. Seems like some refinement is needed on the network system. Your comment you linked seems to more or less nullify the core intent of the one to many idea it was based around, or that I at least thought it was intended for.

But like I've said, train networks (at least for the moment)
cannot mix loads, because they're hardcoded to handle a single
type of resource at a time (with a single delivery using a single train).

Like, they will re-purpose trains for any resource that they can carry,
but they will only load a single resource with-in a single shipment.
