when you destroy rail crossings (to upgrade them) and the vehicle depot is "offline" you are loosing trucks!
the trucks (probably already on route) will drive to the crossing and then disappear including their load.
i'd say they should stop and look for another route or there should be a warning
Hmm. Can’t say that I have seen this or had this happen to me. Can you reproduce this reliably?

when i delete a crossing i see trucks come in and disappear.
when the vehicle depot is online they just get out of there. but if it's offline they just vanish.
i went from 55 vehicles to 37-38
i don't think it makes any difference if i just delete the "inner" parts or the whole crossing as long as it's still in deconstruction.
So the trucks are actively in the crossing when you are deconstructing?
no, they arrive after the deconstruction has begun. but were on route to somewhere past the crossing
just pausing the VD and marking a crossing with lot of traffic should be enough
