Phantom AltGr input after modifier combinations

Issue description

Phantom AltGr input after modifier combinations — still present in 0.8.8

This longstanding modifier-input bug remains present for me after the Controls rework. I’m hoping it can be investigated while the input system is being updated.

After using combinations involving Ctrl, Shift and Alt, the game sometimes behaves as though AltGr remains held after all keys have been released.

Subsequent presses of individual modifiers are then recorded as:

  • CTRL + AltGr
  • SHIFT + AltGr
  • ALT + AltGr
  • CMD(windows key) + AltGr

I am pressing only the individual modifier shown. My keyboard has no key labelled AltGr.

Expected: Releasing the keys clears their modifier state. Pressing Left Ctrl alone records only Ctrl.

Actual: An unpressed AltGr modifier remains active. This affects gameplay as well as the input field: normal modifier shortcuts stop working until repeatedly pressing and releasing modifier keys eventually clears the stuck state.

Keybind Framework has a workaround for stale AltGr input while preserving legitimate Right Alt/AltGr use. Its handling may provide a useful reference.

Controls suggestion: collapse an entire mod

Please allow a mod’s heading to collapse or expand all its categories together.

Imagine Not Enough Keybinds adding roughly 20 categories and 300 bindings here. Collapsing every category individually would make the Controls list cumbersome.

API suggestion: placement context for conflict detection

Shortcuts used in unrelated placement contexts can legitimately share a key. Conflict detection should account for whether both actions can actually be active together, while still reporting genuine overlaps within the same context.

A shared key does not necessarily represent a conflict when the placement shortcuts belong to different tools or buildings.

Reproduction steps

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Use or attempt to bind Ctrl + Shift + Alt combinations several times.
  2. Release all keys.
  3. In Settings → Controls, start capturing a binding and press Left Ctrl alone.
  4. Repeat with Shift, Alt and the Windows key individually.
  5. When the bug occurs, the field includes an unexpected AltGr modifier.
  6. Return to gameplay and test ordinary shortcuts involving modifiers.
