Issue description
N.B.: I did not file this issue per se on whether retaining walls should collapse or not when coming in contact with water. Instead, the behavior described here may not be unique to retaining wall <-> water interactions, and could be a symptom of an underlying consistency issue in the game/physics engine. IIRC, previous Unity Engine versions displayed global asymmetric object physics behavior in an orientation-dependent manner.
When coming in contact with water, retaining walls display inconsistent behavior (persist or collapse) dependent on their orientation relative to the game world. The observed behavior appears independent on the orientation of the object itself, as mirrored copies of retaining walls exhibit identical behavior to their non-mirrored originals.
General setup: default Sandbox world, no mods, arrow indicates north as reference.
Top down overview, north now on the left.
Close-up of mining designations.
Post-execution of mining designations (north=left):
- Retaining walls north and west of the water interface invariably persist
- Retaining walls south and east of the water interface invariably collapse
Reproduction steps
- Load attached save 'ISSUE 01 - TEST 01 - Inconsistent object behavior, orientation-dependent.save'.
- Select the sandbox tools [F10].
- Use the 'immediately fulfill mining designations' tool over the mining designations between the retaining walls.
- The retaining walls north and west of the water interface invariably persist, while those south and east are invariably destroyed.
