Issue description

Description:
When placing a Mining Control Tower or Forestry Control Tower, the preview shows a green arrow for the direction of the default work area. Since Update 4 this arrow is practically invisible: it sits inside the tower model and is hidden by the placement preview, only small green fragments poke out between stairs and platforms.
In Update 3 the arrow was at the same place inside the tower, but the placement preview was see-through enough to show it clearly.

Screenshots:

  1. Update 4.3 – close-up of the placement preview. The red box marks the green arrow fragments poking out at the first platform; the rest of the arrow is hidden inside the model.
  2. Update 3 – placement preview of the Forestry Control Tower. The arrow is clearly visible through the see-through preview.
  3. Update 4.3 – the same situation as in screenshot 2. The arrow is not visible at all.

Expected:
The arrow is clearly visible and points towards the default work area, like in Update 3.

Details:

  • LayoutEntityPreview.initializeGo clones Assets/Base/Buildings/PreviewArrow.prefab, applies rotation and scale from DrawArrowWileBuildingProtoParam (scale 4 for both towers) and parents it with worldPositionStays: false. It never sets a position, so the arrow sits at the building's origin. This code is identical in Update 3.
  • Arrow mesh Arrow001aa: bounds center (-0.19, 0.99, 0), extents (0.57, 0.10, 0.43). At scale 4 it spans about -3.0 to +1.6 along its length, ±1.7 sideways and 3.6 to 4.4 in height.
  • ForestryTower mesh: bounds center (0.07, 9.38, 0), extents (4.04, 9.38, 4.03).
→ The arrow lies completely inside the tower's footprint, at the first platform. Arrow, tower and placement code are unchanged since Update 3 – only the preview rendering changed, which now hides the arrow.

Possible fix:
Place the arrow outside the model, e.g. with a local offset along its forward direction (an additional offset in DrawArrowWileBuildingProtoParam), or render it on top of the preview. As a test, I moved the arrow 5 tiles forward and 1 tile down in a mod, and it is then clearly visible and rotates correctly with the building.

Reproduction steps

  1. Open the build menu and select the Mining Control Tower or the Forestry Control Tower.
  2. Move the placement preview over the terrain and rotate it.
  3. The direction arrow is not (or barely) visible.

Why do you need that arrow? There's absolutely no point to it.

Correct, the arrow is now hidden since blueprint shader is now opaque. We are aware of this problem, thanks for the report.

Thanks for the reply. It’s not exactly a bug, but it does look a bit unsightly. I just wanted to bring it to your attention.
