Space Research Points

I tried clicking on the space research points but it did not bring up anything to tell me how to get them like clicking on the red lab equipment. How do I acquire space research points?

From my understanding, space research points are acquired from a space station. Probably a crewed space station... but I've never bothered to get that far.
