I had this same idea, along with using your cargo ships to transport goods between your own islands, also cargo helicopters, and planes.

yes it will be cool instead of just importing from the world map you can actually visit the island set up the small mining town build a shipyard in both islands and transport goods back and forth is a very nice idea just like anno
