I like how the ships look and work in general. It would be cool to be able to create more ships, maybe even different types of ships (destroyers, battleships, subs, etc). The idea being build these ships and set them to a location to patrol or hold a position. Or have them travel with you?
So i'm thinking the enemy rebuilds its ships and redeploys them, so even area's you've visited and deemed safe could now have hostile ships. Make the whole ship warfare a real thing. Have naval vessels keeping the trade routes safe and open.
I would also like targeting control If there is i haven't found it. I always want to take out the ship with 2 guns before firing on the ship with 1 gun.
More/better ship warfare
I think that if combat is going to be bigger, it should happen more frequently and tie into other parts of the game more.
For instance, manufacturing ammunition (this lets us use sulfur, so bonus), building gunboats, or trading goods with neighbors for support.
Or having medical supplies needed for injured crew.
Other features may include neighbors needing back up and offering goods if you can fight off pirate raids.
At the same time, if combat is happening more often, we need to be able to close the screen in order to deal with the island in the meantime.
Battle with a battlegroup of up to 5 ships for example instead of just 1 ship.
The starting ship does not receive any upgrades it will always be a cargo ship.
Now there is the possibility of building a military shipyard, in which 5 types of military vessels can be developed
- 2 types of submarines: Scorpene class (diesel and electric) and Ohio class (nuclear)
- 2 types destroyer: Arleigh Burke class and Zumwalt class
- cruisers 1 type: Ticonderoga class
- battleship: Missouri class (BB-63)
- amphibious landing ship: Wasp class
With that there is the possibility of creating a new dynamic for the maritime combats, each type of vessel has its characteristics
The amphibious landing ships are for the most varied missions
New tech tree
Military satellites which can release areas of the map every 1 satellite launched unlocks 10% of the map
Military industry: ammunition parts construction and repair
Fleets might be a good idea, so research into semaphore or Morse code, radio coms to organise formations (just more ships on the screen per tech point) to fight more realistic enemies, having a few different types of ship that have strengths and weaknesses, the fleet can be balanced to take on a variety of enemies.
I think the main point is to add interaction and depth along with supply chain (of course!) complexity so that is does not feel so stale.
