Gamers choose to spend lots of their time playing certain games. I believe one of the reasons some games become more popular, is down to how attractive the image is you're required to stare at for hours on-end. In comparison to some of the best in-game lighting (Age of Empires, Satisfactory, Factorio, etc), I think the appearance of Captains of Industry is much too dull! An overall increase in the brightness and colour, would help boost the appeal significantly.
Maybe it's because living, as I do, in a temperate zone in the northern hemisphere, I suffer (like many others) from 'seasonally affected disorder', players like me look for an escape in the games we play, and a sunnier, brighter game helps in this regard. I have no idea if this applies to players from sunnier zones, but I imagine they might feel the same? However, just my opinion, but best of luck with the game and thank you for the opportunity to state my piece.
Boost brightness and colour in-game!

An in game gamma and/or brightness adjustment would be good. For me things are too bright.
