Upgrade of Ghosts

I often pre-place items for planning purposes, but these are early tier even for late game buildings.
It would be nice if ghosts could be upgraded to higher tier buildings, such as for the assembler to go from Manual => Electric => Electric II without having to either build it first, or remove and replace.

Don't be so fast popping up suggestions without second thought. What if the ghost has some product delivered already before u hit the upgrade for it? A mess, complications, a bug-prone mechanic. Not worth it.

If the footprint matches, make a planned objects up-gradable before building -- so the planned object changes to the upgraded version.
This would be most helpful when laying out planned pipes and conveyors and realizing an upgraded version of the them is required.
The current system demands the current transport layout is destroyed and the upgraded version is laid all over again.

This would be very nice, especially for transports while planning the build.
Also downgrading while planning would be nice.

You could handle it like deconstruction and immediate construction after the delivered products got removed.

If it isn't built, we should be able to downgrade or upgrade belts, pipes, and buildings (for assemblers, if they are building something that requires a certain level of building, give a message that you can't up/downgrade further due to selected recipe).
If some materials have been delivered, those materials need a truck to remove them before continuing...
For downgrading, if it is built, then it should be treated like vehicle recycling... Bulldoze the structure, have vehicles remove the materials (or use Unity), Add the downgraded version, vehicles bring the parts (or use unity) and now you have a downgraded pipes, belt or buildings.
Blueprints placed over existing structures should Flag structures with a different tier as starting to upgrade or downgrade in a paused state and should paste the settings for balancers, buildings, etc.

I fully support the idea of upgrade and downgrade in BP/planned, but I don’t like the idea of treating downgrade as demolish-then-rebuild, because demolishing can actually affect adjacent connectors so that they disappear, and the rebuild does not put those connectors back. So, I would like to treat downgrade analogous to an upgrade, simply removing some material whilst keeping the structure in place.

For me, the main use case would be when planning out blueprints, which I usually do while the game and/or the ghosts are paused, so dealing with already-delivered materials isn't a huge issue. I'd be fine with that requiring the already-delivered-but-not-needed materials be removed before construction of the ghost can complete, especially if I can unity them away immediately.
