Alternative method for display of resource location

Existing method of column resource indicators has several shortcomings:
it's not easy to work out the depth of the bottom of a resource,
it has limited resolution with column indicators only every other mining tile,
it doesn't show location of dirt, rock, burried waste or resources under the sea, e.g. sand.
Suggestion is to create a horizontal cross section with all items above a specified height removed. The resulting exposed 2d surface then colour coded to show the resources in the single layer immediately below. There should be a means of adjusting the displayed height, e.g. with the mouse wheel, so you can easily move up and down through the layers, with some indication of the height being displayed. Colour coding could include colours for rock, dirt, etc. Resolution could be down to the mining tile size 8mx8m or even the 2mx2m small squares for mining tiles containing mixed resources.
