!!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE THE COLIBRI INDUSTRIES UPDATE !!!
Tomorrow, a new Colibri Industries update will be released, and I strongly ask everyone who is already using the mod in an existing save to take a few important precautions before updating. This update contains a lot of changes: some buildings, recipes, resources, and parts of the mod’s systems have been changed or completely reworked. Because of this, I cannot guarantee 100% that every old save will survive the update without issues. Before updating, please make sure to:
Create a separate backup of your save. Do not overwrite this backup after installing the update.
For maximum safety, I strongly recommend completely removing all buildings from the old version of Colibri Industries from your island BEFORE installing the update. This will be much safer for your save, as some buildings and systems have been changed or reworked.
After removing the old buildings, save your game in a new save slot, so you still have your original save as a backup.
Only after doing this should you install the new version of Colibri Industries.
Do not delete your backup until you are sure that everything works correctly after the update.
If you experience errors, missing resources/buildings, or your save fails to load after the update, do not overwrite your backup. Please report the problem on Discord and, if possible, attach the error log.
MOST IMPORTANT: Backup your save + remove all old Colibri Industries buildings BEFORE updating. This is the safest option. This is a major update, and the mod has changed significantly compared to the previous version. It’s better to spend a few minutes preparing than to risk losing an island you’ve invested dozens or even hundreds of hours into. Thank you to everyone who plays Colibri Industries and helps the mod grow. Keep your saves safe — there’s a lot of new stuff coming tomorrow!
Colibri Industries — Major Update
This is a major Colibri Industries update that significantly changes and expands the waste processing system.
Compared to the first version, the mod has grown considerably. What started as a relatively simple waste recycling system is gradually becoming its own industrial and environmental branch, with custom resources, buildings, production chains, and mechanics.
The main goal of this update is to move away from the simple “waste → useful resources” concept and turn recycling into a fully developed part of your island’s progression.
♻️ New Waste Processing System
Waste is no longer converted directly into finished useful materials.
It now goes through several stages: initial preparation, processing, separation into different fractions, and further recycling.
To achieve this, players will gradually need to build their own production chain, where each facility performs a specific part of the process.
As a result, waste recycling becomes a separate production system that needs to be planned, supplied with resources, and gradually developed.
🏭 New and Reworked Buildings
This update introduces new production facilities, while some existing buildings have been changed or completely reworked to fit the new system.
Each building now has its own role.
Some facilities handle the initial preparation of waste, while others are responsible for separation, purification, or more advanced processing.
Instead of relying on a single universal building, you will gradually create an entire Colibri Industries infrastructure.
🧰 Dedicated Colibri Industries Category
Colibri Industries now has its own dedicated category in the construction menu.
All buildings and main elements belonging to the mod are collected there.
You no longer need to search through different vanilla Captain of Industry categories to find them — Colibri Industries content can now be found in one place.
This also creates a foundation for future expansion: as new buildings and technologies are introduced, they will remain part of one unified Colibri Industries system.
🧪 New Resources
Along with the new recycling system comes an entire chain of new resources.
They have not been added simply to increase the number of materials in the game. Each resource represents a specific stage of waste processing and plays its own role within the overall Colibri Industries production chain.
Waste Slurry
A wet mixture of shredded waste produced during the initial processing of garbage using water. It is one of the main intermediate materials in the new recycling system and serves as the starting point for further separation and recovery of useful materials.
RSG
An intermediate mixture recovered during waste separation, consisting of sand, gravel, and glass fragments. At this stage, the material is still mixed and requires further processing before its useful components can be recovered.
Glass Feedstock
A cleaner material produced by further processing RSG. During this stage, the gravel is separated and removed, leaving primarily sand and glass fragments. The resulting Glass Feedstock can then continue through the glass recovery and processing chain.
Plastic Waste
A separated plastic fraction recovered from mixed waste. It contains plastic materials that are not yet ready for reuse and therefore require further cleaning and processing.
Recycled Plastic
A processed secondary material produced from Plastic Waste. Recycling transforms the recovered plastic fraction into a cleaner and more useful resource that can be returned to the island’s production economy.
Molten Plastic
The next stage of the plastic recycling chain, produced by melting Recycled Plastic. This processed material prepares recovered plastic for more advanced production processes and creates a foundation for future plastic-based production within Colibri Industries.
Pyrolysis Oil
A liquid product obtained through the thermal processing of waste materials. It is not conventional crude oil, but a secondary resource recovered from waste that can be used in further technological and industrial processes.
Pyrolysis Gas
A gaseous product generated during thermal processing. It allows part of the energy contained in waste to be recovered instead of simply being lost, providing another useful output from the recycling process.
Carbon Residue
A solid carbon-rich material remaining after thermal processing. Instead of becoming another generic waste product, it is recovered as a separate resource that can be used in further production processes.
Together, these resources create a much deeper recycling chain, gradually taking the player from ordinary settlement waste through separation, cleaning, material recovery, plastic processing, and thermal treatment to more advanced secondary materials and energy resources.
🏭 COMPLETE PRODUCTION COMPLEX BLUEPRINT
Want to see how the complete Colibri Industries production chain can be organized and connected?
A ready-to-use blueprint of the complete recycling complex is now available. You can use it as a starting point for your own factory, see an example of how the production chain can be organized, or modify the entire complex to suit the needs of your island.
The blueprint includes the main Colibri Industries buildings and production connections.

♻️ You don’t have to build it exactly this way — this is just one example of how the complete Colibri Industries complex can be organized.
🔬 New Progression and Research
The entire system is no longer available from the beginning.
New recycling capabilities are gradually unlocked through research.
During the early stages, you will work with simpler technologies. As your island develops, you will gain access to new facilities, resources, and more advanced processing methods.
This means that Colibri Industries develops alongside your island, rather than remaining a single building that you construct once and forget about.
🌍 New Environmental Indicator
This update introduces a dedicated indicator related to the environmental impact and pollution generated by Colibri Industries.
It allows players to better see the environmental impact of the processes introduced by the mod.
This is an important part of the mod’s new direction: ecology is gradually becoming more than just a theme and is developing into its own mechanic connected to the player’s decisions.
And this is only the first stage of this system — the environmental side of the mod will continue to expand in future updates.
🌱 Recycling Has a Cost Too
Waste recycling in Colibri Industries is not intended to be a free source of resources.
The system requires water, electricity, workers, and proper infrastructure. Some technological processes can also generate pollution of their own.
This gives the player another choice: recover more value from waste while also supporting a more complex industrial system and considering its environmental impact.
Recycling helps the environment, but industrial recycling itself is not completely clean.
Finding the right balance between these two sides is one of the main directions of Colibri Industries.
⚙️ Reworked Balance
Many parameters from the previous version of the mod have been reconsidered alongside the introduction of the new system.
Recipes, production rates, resource consumption, electricity usage, and workforce requirements have been adjusted to fit the new production chains.
The goal is not to make the game easier or turn waste into an endless source of free resources.
Recycling should be a useful alternative, but operating it requires building and maintaining the necessary infrastructure.
🔄 Colibri Industries Is Evolving
If you compare the first version of the mod with its current state, Colibri Industries has changed dramatically.
It is not only the amount of content that has changed — the entire concept has evolved.
What began as a small addition for recycling waste is gradually becoming its own system dedicated to waste management, resource recovery, industrial processing, and ecology.
This update is another major step in that direction.
🚧 This Is Only the Beginning
The new system creates a foundation for future Colibri Industries updates.
I plan to continue expanding recycling with new resources, technologies, buildings, and more advanced environmental mechanics.
Some future systems are already being planned and experimented with, but for now, we’ll keep those behind the scenes. 😉
My goal is to gradually create a system where waste, recycling, resource recovery, and the environmental impact of industry become a fully developed part of your island’s progression.
Thank you to everyone who plays Colibri Industries, tests the mod, reports bugs, and shares ideas. ❤️
❤️ Special Thanks
I would also like to thank the people whose ideas and suggestions have helped shape the development of Colibri Industries.
Moriarty — for the idea of creating a dedicated Colibri Industries category in the construction menu, bringing all of the mod’s buildings together in one place.
gregacrc60 — for the original suggestion of recovering recyclable plastic from waste. This idea became one of the inspirations behind the new plastic recycling branch in Colibri Industries.
And thank you to everyone who continues to share suggestions, provide feedback, and help the mod grow. Even if an idea does not appear in the game immediately, it may become the foundation for a future mechanic.
Thank you for helping Colibri Industries grow. ❤️
This is no longer just about recycling waste.
This is the beginning of an entire environmental industry for your island. ♻️🏭🌱
