Features

  • Three tiers: lead-acid, Li-ion, and advanced solid-state storage.
  • 100 / 400 / 1,600 MWs capacity.
  • 250 kW / 1 MW / 4 MW charging power.
  • 1 / 4 / 12 MW discharging power.
  • 80% / 90% / 94% charging efficiency.
  • Independent consumption and generation priorities.
  • Support for Use surplus power only and Allow surplus power.
  • Localized charging, discharging, and waiting status.
  • Maintenance I for T1 and Maintenance II for T2/T3, with a small idle baseline.
  • In-place T1 → T2 → T3 upgrades that preserve settings and stored energy.
  • Tier research plus unlimited +2% capacity and +2% power research.
  • Dynamic research placement that accounts for nodes added by other mods.
  • Dedicated optimized models, LODs, PBR textures, and icons.
  • No workers required. Every tier occupies 5x4 tiles.

Construction costs

  • T1: 40 Construction Parts II, 10 Electronics, 10 Steel.
  • T2: 60 Construction Parts III, 20 Electronics II, 20 Steel.
  • T3: 80 Construction Parts IV, 30 Electronics III, 40 Glass.

Installation

Extract the archive so the resulting folder is:

%APPDATA%\Captain of Industry\Mods\GridBattery

Enable Grid Battery when creating or loading a game. Back up important saves first. The mod may be added to an existing save, but must not be removed after battery entities have been saved.

Compatibility

Mod version: 1.0.8. Tested with Captain of Industry 0.8.7 and game API assemblies 0.8.7.0. Compatibility with later game updates is not guaranteed.

Changelog
* Fixed steam warm-up: battery dispatch uses actual generated or buffered energy instead of potential capacity.
* Fixed generation priorities: lower-priority generators cannot fund higher-priority battery charging.
* Batteries cover the actual higher-priority generation shortfall before lower-priority backup generators.
* Shared charge planning preserves source priorities and does not allocate surplus energy twice.

v1.0.8 | 2026-09-08

* Fixed steam warm-up: battery dispatch uses actual generated or buffered energy instead of potential capacity.
* Fixed generation priorities: lower-priority generators cannot fund higher-priority battery charging.
* Batteries cover the actual higher-priority generation shortfall before lower-priority backup generators.
* Shared charge planning preserves source priorities and does not allocate surplus energy twice.

v1.0.7 | 2026-08-26

* Fixed batteries switching to discharge when surplus power is available and lower-priority generators exist.
* Batteries now charge from surplus first; lower-priority generation is displaced only without surplus.

v1.0.6 | 2026-08-26

* Reworked charging to use Captain of Industry's vanilla priority queues for every consumer.
* Fixed partial charging: multiple batteries now use every remaining kilowatt in the same tick.
* Fixed later batteries remaining at an old partial charge limit after the network gains more generation.
* Batteries now remain electrically inactive until construction completes.
* Optimized priority generation checks for large battery fleets.
* Preserved surplus-only charging for solar panels and other surplus generators.

v1.0.5 | 2026-08-26

* Fixed charging from ordinary generator remainder when higher- or equal-priority consumers are active.
* Fixed idle buffered consumers such as Vehicle Depot reserving power they are not currently using.
* Preserved surplus-only charging for solar panels and other surplus generators.

v1.0.4 | 2026-08-26

* Fixed waiting-charging oscillation when a high-priority battery deliberately leaves lower-priority consumers without power.
* Fixed residual charging after lowering a battery's consumption priority: supplied pumps no longer masquerade as unmet load.
* Fixed the default priority display: new batteries now show priority 12 for both consumption and production.

v1.0.3 | 2026-08-25

* Fixed charging allocation so battery consumption priority is compared with external consumers such as pumps.
* Fixed production dispatch so stored energy displaces only lower-priority external generators.
* Fixed full-charge oscillation when battery generation has equal or lower priority.
* New batteries now default to consumption and production priority 12; existing saved priorities are preserved.

v1.0.2 | 2026-08-25

* Moved all 33 localization catalogs out of GridBattery.dll into editable external JSON files in the mod's Localization directory.
* Added English fallback when the active locale JSON file is unavailable.
* Added dedicated, readable research icons for the repeatable capacity and power upgrades.

v1.0.1 | 2026-08-25

* Added complete localization for 31 additional languages: Bulgarian, Catalan, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
* Embedded all 33 localization catalogs in GridBattery.dll and added runtime selection based on Captain of Industry's active culture.
* Added English fallback for unsupported cultures and validation for UTF-8, key parity, and format placeholders.
* Added localized publication descriptions and a comprehensive README.md.

v1.0.0 | 2026-08-25

* Added three upgradeable grid-battery tiers with dedicated lead-acid, Li-ion, and solid-state models.
* Added persistent energy storage, independent charging and generation priorities, and surplus-power controls.
* Added tier research, repeatable capacity and power research, load-dependent maintenance, and localized inspector status.
