Trains: pathfinding does not work properly

Fixed Trains

Does anyone have any idea why the third train isn't entering the middle track? If I interrupt the track at the lower track, the middle track is used. I've tested two versions (see picture) and nothing works. sometimes only a way is found and not the waiting zone

Can you post a save please? A few people have been reporting issues like this but we're yet to be able to reproduce them. A save which reproduces the issue would help us figure out what's going on, as clearly something isn't quite right!

Unfortunately, seems to need mods.

sry, I thought the mods wouldn't change the save. COIExtended Cheats ands Tweaks build 417.

I found the error, but I can't explain it. The roundabout works. Straight ahead and around the outside. If I remove one of the two red marked segments, the train finds a way. The train finds the way around the outside immediately. If the train goes straight ahead, he only finds the way shortly before the destination.

the focus in front of the train ends/hangs before the roundabout when there are two ways

Thanks for the additional info. We think we've found the issue, so hopefully this will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

I am experiencing this too on a save without mods, but I noticed an additional detail. If there's a train yard before a station, with multiple tracks for waiting trains, they will use those additional tracks just fine, but only if their "first" choice of track is blocked by a moving train. They then correctly use a different track. But if that "first" track is occupied by an already stationary (waiting) train, then other trains won't even look at those additional tracks, and instead go like "huh, seems we're waiting". They queue up on the main track, from both directions, blocking traffic. No roundabouts in my case, the tracks leading to the yard area are pretty simple. Also worth noting that the issue is independent of using exclusive zones, or whether the yard area is just a track or a station in the schedule, and that the track setup is otherwise correct. Manually pointing the train to a free yard track will "unstuck" its pathfinding and then it continues as normal.

This one is less clear. Trains pick their goal station at the time they depart from the last station. You've set train limits on the three stations in the waiting area, so that's working well, however it seems that the main station does not have a train limit. Your train in the "top" lane has left to go to the main station, releasing its station for the "stuck" train.

You're right, this might not be the best reproduction, it can be simplified. Let me get you a better one. Because the thing is, this happens without those "1 train limit" yard stations too. These stations are just my try at working around the issue, but they didn't help. They didn't make things worse so I kept them, but still. I can get the same result after I deconstruct these three stations. The "trigger" for this still seems to be the stationary state of the blocking train. Trains that are moving, both entering or leaving the waiting track, will cause other trains to pathfind correctly.

Gotcha. Seems to be the same issue - so should be fixed in an uncomping patch

Patch is now live in experimental. Got some more improvements to pathfinding to come, but I think it should fix the issues in this thread.

It did, upon loading that save the stuck train immediately went to waiting track 2. Thank you ❀️

In this particular case, the problem was also resolved for me. I'll continue to monitor it. Thank you for the quick fix.

Well, your waiting lines are not set to be exclusive zones,
or the waypoint stations aren't set to only accept 1 train at a time,
so the trains will pile up on top of one another.

Also, you probably need to set the destination stations to not accept trains,
under the correct conditions, if you want trains to actually wait in this "stacker".

Never mind, I posted this because I thought the train limit was still set to 1, but I just noticed it’s not. It looks like my railyard station's train limit was reset somehow. It was always set to 1, and normally it works fine even without 'exclusive zones'. πŸ˜‰

Yeah, thats why I said (or at least what I meant) either one or the other would work.
Anyways you figured it out your issue, so it's all good πŸ‘.
