Storage Fluid T3 vs. 4x900 T4 Pipes

For bulk materials, we have 4 belts T3 x 450 = 1800/60

T3 Storage 4 inlets bulk material throughput 3000/60

For liquids, we have 4 pipes T4 x 900 = 3600/60

T3 Storage liquids 4 inlets throughput 3000/60

This means that with liquids, we cannot fully utilize the 4 inlets with 4 x 900 T4 pipes.

Is this intentional? I apologize in advance for my poor English.

There is one more, related issue.

Currently all ports (that are between non-transports)
are restricted to a throughput maximal of 1800/60,
which is just 2x T4 transports.

It likely should be expanded at one point
to support at least 4x T4 transports.

you can plug 3 pipes/belts into a connector connected to each of the ins/outs of the storage (total of 12) for more throughput

No, that's not how that works on 2 fronts.

  1. Storage structures (except Thermal Storage,
but TBH it's not really a regular storage structure to
begin with), have an input limit global to all of it's ports,
so it makes no difference if you use a connector for this,
because 4x T4 transports just exceede that maximal
    input rate on those storage structures & that is that;
that cannot be worked-aound in any way.

  2. All port connections that don't involve a transport
(like mentioned above) have a hardcoded limit of 1800/60,
    something that can be reached with just 2x T4 transports;
no matter what one can't plug in more T4 transports than that,
(in one direction) & expect them to be able to funnel all of their
    throughput through a single port.

Not to say that it's not applicable to lower tiered transport types,
for those it can be utilized without many issues, just not for
T4 ones, because they have too high throughput too begin with.

So, it's not like it's game-changing. But when I was calculating the water consumption of my planned settlement, and I hadn't done much research yet and didn't have any offices, it became clear to me that if my consumption exceeds 3000/60, I can no longer use this fluid storage system as an alarm that alerts me when I have too little water. Because that's also where the wastewater treatment would run. For me, it's simply a matter of calculation in relation to the possibility of getting a notification before disaster strikes. Sure, I could have simply built twice the amount of fresh water and sewage. But at that time, I couldn't afford it in terms of both the number of residents and the cost of building materials. And now I also know why my calculations in the last big save never worked out with the diesel; I knew that 4x900 should be there, but the storage flow prevented me from seeing that too little was arriving in the end.And when you split/distribute it, you don't immediately see why.

Pretty sure this was an U3 change? There was several topics about it. A lot of speculation, but does anyone know the actual reason for the limitation?

Storage was "instant" transportation, if you built a long row of them. <- one of the reasons.

green_gecko [discord] · 7 months ago

yea. the reason was a critical TOO MUCH FUN DETECTED error in a single player sandbox game the devs struck swiftly and decisively with a anti-fun hammer. well done! /s

if your pushing 3K/6K of a single resource your a good caption!

It's not that difficult, I mean, if you don't have any offices yet and know for sure that you can't get the wood for the chairs you need, you quickly arrive at these figures. The problem is simply that I can't set warnings if the 4x900 water supply is running low. So I'd have to build a small storage unit with a 900 flow rate for each 900-meter pipe, which isn't really ideal because the game is already very weak in terms of FPS and playability (you don't want to build even more things). That's just how it is, and it remains my only major criticism of the game.

weak in terms of FPS and playability? I dont have any FPS issues, and i keep dieing, so i been replaying for a very long time, like 15th play through now?

With 32k I can set it to 20x and watch as I can't see anything anymore because it's so fast ^^

This is the same as T1 storage being limited to just 200 for sollids. You need to upgrade to the next level of storage.

g4eschaschlik [discord] · 4 months ago

Yes, we know that, but before we got the update, the T3 fluid storage was limited, so 4x900 could not flow through it, and therefore it was practically useless for notifications when 4x900 flow was no longer sufficient. I'm really happy we got the update. For the smaller storage tanks, it's not so important to me; others will have to address that if there are still bottlenecks. If you really need 4x900 flow rates, you don't usually install smaller storage tanks in between, at least I don't.
