shift-overbuilding Nuclear reactor leaves a crater and allows overlapping (b566)

reproduction steps:

  1. build a nuclear reactor
  2. shift-click to build a nuclear reactor overlapping the existing reactor

A crater will be created, and the surfaces won't move. The building seems to work fine and not notice the crater, but I filled it with dirt so it would look normal and added new surfaces (this worked fine).

Deleting the new building will make the crater and surfaces disappear. The deconstruction graphics will be misaligned.

unfortunately they block their own ports. it would be cool otherwise, thank you for the idea! I might build some then leave them sitting around my map because it's funny, even if it doesn't work.

I think mine is working after I shift moved it? But I was just turning mine sideways, so maybe it breaks in weirder positions or when they're overlapping or something?

that one's not built yet, so maybe it fixes itself once it's built

if i place one, then use shift click replace to rotate it, it breaks the ports and the area vehicles can navigate is not alligned with the reactor anymore

hmmmm this is odd - I'm pretty confident I remember it letting me fill in the hole last time

looks like depending how you move it, maybe it changes which things break

interesting, mine definitely went away when I tested it in the sand

also it doesn't let you overbuild if you overlap the octagon part

Do you know of any other buildings that affect the terrain under them?

The waste storage, but its not movable

I just tried testing by trying to build a farm on top of everything, and I didn't find anything in my current save. But I don't have the last tech tier done yet

ooh wait the flywheels do

doesn't seem to let you move them though

or maybe that's bcz i'm out of unity

it seems nuclear reactors are the only building that modifies the terrain that can be moved

i will have to put some reactors next to my train depot

since the extensions must be removed before the main building can, you can dig under the previous extensions or the main building and then it breaks the state of the depot somehow if that makes sense? because the depot must remain continuous, you can't destroy the middle segments.
