Total freeze when moving camera by clicking notification

Fixed Crash Severe

Hi, this morning I had my game freeze up completely when clicking a notification and moving the camera. This happened once after a couple of minutes of play, and again after over an hour of play. I never had this happen before today. I'm running the most recent release on Windows 11.

The freeze didn't happen every time I clicked a notification. I was zoomed in pretty close and had the resource and terrain designation overlay active. The freeze didn't happen right away when I clicked the notification. The camera started moving and after a split second the game froze, resulting in a pop up from windows asking if I wanted to wait or terminate the program. I waited for 2 minutes before terminating.

I included the log files in [c:\Users%USERNAME%t\AppData\LocalLow\Mafi Games\Captain of Industry] There isn't a Mafi Games folder in [c:\Users%USERNAME%t\AppData\Local\Temp]

The same thing is happening to me. It is a random crash since the last update when moving the camera when the mining tower overlay is active. No other active programs. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens at random intervals.

I have been experiencing this issue 1-2 times per extended session (4+ hrs) since the update was released.

Symptoms: Game randomly faults when panning across the map while (possibly) any of the fill/mine/level overlays are active. This is a hard fault, if alt+F4 doesn't recover control, the system requires a hard restart.
(Edit: By panning I mean middle mouse button activated panning)
Player logs from today attached.

It is completely unpredictable when this crash happens, the only constant is that the mining overlay is active and that I'm moving the camera, either by clicking a notification or manually with WASD. I'm really hoping this can get fixed sooner rather than later because at the moment every time there's a minor lag in the game I get stressed out thinking it froze up again. And I've been having minor lags more and more as my factory grows bigger and bigger.

I'll acknowledge this is not a showstopper destructive fault, but the randomness and friction associated with a complete system reboot, game relaunch, then figuring out what got lost since the last autosave is... not ideal when it happens during every session. Do you need more data? Debug runs?? At this point, investing time supporting investigative actions would be worth it for me.

If a full system reboot is required it's almost certainly a system problem, not a game problem. Modern operating systems shouldn't let an application do anything that causes the system to need rebooting. A few people have reported suspicions with the latest NVIDIA drivers, so rolling them back to a previous version may be a solution.

I can certainly roll back the drivers (note, they were recently updated again and the lock still occurs) but I want to be clear that this behavior coincides with the latest updates to the mining/forestry towers.

  • While random, this behavior only occurs while panning with terrain overlays, as noted it started occurring immediately following the mining/forestry updates (with labels).
  • The game freezes, it does not crash or generate log dumps. The mouse still moves but the cursor is one of the specialized panning/mining icons and the game will not respond to mouse or keyboard input.
  • It is possible to alt-tab out, however the mouse cursor does not revert to the system display. Keyboard input works, mouse cursor movement works, but no mouse inputs are recognized by the system.
  • At that point, ctrl+alt+delete access to the task manager works, but trying to force termination of the game is a 50/50 proposition. When it doesn't work, a system reboot is required to restore operations.

Given all that, like I said I can rollback if you can specify a known good nVidia driver (currently 610.62)

I also get the same crashes since that update. The only thing I could do is to set the autosave intervall to 3 minutes so I didn't have to repeat that much. But in my opinion it is still a rather gamebreaking bug

Just had a crash about like this. I was scrolling with the keyboard - you can see the zoom level in the screenshot. Attached log is from time of freeze. Log from Roaming/Captain of Industry/Logs is from 4 minutes prior. Cursor is not stuck.

Had no issue terminating CoI from the "not responding" window.

for sure game breaking. I can force close the game and need to restart the game

It is becoming extremely annoying. It happens when there are more than 1 miningtowers in view.
