At the moment the game locked up, I was building a pipeline and rotating the camera (so, nothing unusual). Windows reported the program unresponsive; I chose to wait first, and after a few minutes had Windows kill it. No recent changes to my machine or OS. Log and some saves attached.
Crash / hard lock
i have been having the same problem, game crashes sometimes when i tilt the camera horizontally to the ground or kinda upwards angle
Just froze again, on experimental. I was moving with a copied storage in my cursor, so the grid overview was open.

Can you also share crash logs from %USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/Mafi Games/Captain of Industry/ and %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Temp/Mafi Games/Captain of Industry/Crashes ?
I don't think so. In LocalLow, it looks like it only keeps logs from the last two sessions. In Local, I don't have a Temp\Mafi Games\. I'll keep this in mind if it happens again, though.
These are both from yesterday. I did start the game again after the crash, then shut it down again. Local/Temp had no new crash logs.
yes i its the "a" version cuz i updated 2 mins after u told me to, i was just building microchip machines
this kind of crash when game freezes and then becoomes unresponsive/triggers unity crash handler, i been on this since first day of gameplay, these crashes occur randomly and unpredictably
I see. It would be really helpful if you could recall what happened just before it froze, did you open an inspector, or moved construction preview? Did you hover something?
i dont think so
the last time it happened twice in a row doing something same was when i was marking mining zones (the yellow squares) on some iron mine
v0.8.6a fixed an issue caused by highlighting mine towers, that sounds like what you are describing, but the latest report was not related to mining towers at all
If you're still getting persistent crashes which are unrelated to the mining/forestry towers I suggest you:
- Verify integrity of game files
- Disable overclocking - for example on this thread a user found the Alienware Command centre they had seemed to be causing it a Discord report that was not imported
- Check out this steam thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1594320/discussions/0/4362376451753243478/
morning all my pc is 7yr old intel and surprisingly i have had no known issues with the game since i got it lol (prob shot myself in the foot now lol)
It's not an intel only problem. Many computers ship "factory overclocked", in a way that seems fine most of the time, but in some situations can cause some applications to have issues. eg. if something stresses the GPU, CPU and memory at the same time it can result in too much power draw from the power supply, leading to instability.
So if your computer is overclocked, even factory overclocked, this may be the cause of the instability. It may not be, but we've had several cases where it was, so it's a good thing to check. Eg. in the linked discord thread.
yeah but how come other games dont crash?
for example rust
cyberpunk 2077, rdr2, gta 5
Other games may not be stressing out the system as much as COI. We use multiple threads for computations and in some cases, like the initial map generation, we use all available cores. This can stress out the hardware more than cyberpunk or gta.
In fact, for map generation, we are seeing elevated amounts of intermittent failures due to the high CPU stress, so we have a single-threaded map generation fallback. That's why map generation can sometimes take super long.
I've seen strange CPU power spikes in hwinfo with COI. They caused my Ryzen 9 5900X to throttle from overheating. I undervolted my CPU to deal with that, luckily it stayed stable. I do not know if and to what extend these power spikes still happen. I can imagine that they can also destabilize a borderline CPU.
No it's not map generation, that is "easy" load.
