Mods not working
A game update changes the game's code, so mods stop working until their authors rebuild them for the new version. Until then, you have three options.
⏳ Option A: Wait for the mod update
Check the mod's page on the Hub for a version verified for your game version. A mod marked Deprecated or Abandoned will not be updated: see option C.
⏪ Option B: Keep playing the previous version
The previous version stays available on Steam on a -legacy branch, currently v0-8-7d-legacy. The name changes with each update, so check the list in Steam. Saves from before Update 1 (2023) open only on the ea-legacy branch.
- Quit the game.
- In your Steam library, right-click Captain of Industry > Properties... > Betas.
- Pick the
-legacybranch of the previous version. Notexperimental, that is the upcoming version. - Steam downloads the previous version and you can keep playing.
Properties, the Betas tab, and the branch dropdown
Remember to switch back to None once your mods are updated, otherwise you will not receive any future updates.
🧰 Option C: Continue without the mods
A recovery save can be loaded in a newer game version with any mods removed. Content from the removed mods disappears, so expect some rebuilding.
- Load the save in a version that can open it (switch to the legacy branch if needed).
- Open the console with the
`key and runexport_recovery_save my-factory. - Quit, set the Steam branch back to None and start the updated game.
- Open Load game, pick the save with the Recovery Save badge, and untick the mods you no longer want.
- You get 30 minutes of free power and computing to stabilize your island.
