I had my island almost spiral into death because of this, so that's nice
Trains pathing to "unknown"
same ðŸ˜
Anyway if this comes up again I'll post here again I guess but it shouldnt now that im downloading 71c
Let me know if this comes up again. We'll be working on improving the status messages.
The train ended up here displaying unknown. I'm not sure if this is the one i changed the route for or if that was a different one, but that might be the cause in that situation. Still i thought i would mention it because it displayed unknown and came up with an error saying it couldnt path. Although this time it's a completely different cause and isn't the end of the world. But it does still have that issue where skipping through the schedule results in "unknown".

71c just broke my pathing on existing train lines. I was having the issue that the patch was supposed to fix, the subject of this thread, but it just introduced a new issue.
This train line has been running for 20hr with no issues. Now the trains can't find a path to the source location.
I can temporarily fix a specific train by changing the direction of the track leading into the station, but it only fixes it for one train

the nesxt train to try and go to that station gets the same issue
I think the issue is with the intersection
because there is a one-tile train track segment

would you like me to document further here, or create a new thread

"Unknown" is not an issue in itself, just a not very good thing to put there. It basically means the train has no target station right now, and it can't have one until it finds a path. It's not very clear, needs to mirror the main status a bit better! In this case there is no path from where the train is to where it needs to go. (Currently) trains can't change direction mid-path, and while there is a route if it could... it can't!
Let me take a look @slopth [discord]
So trains can't actually route around each other as needed then i guess?
I'm not sure how that's applicable here?
The train that can't find a path is on a track going to a dead-end, it's in front of some trains its blocking.
And the dead-end doesn't contain its destination
When the route was changed, it didn't repath and i guess that's where this issue came from. I guess it isnt really an issue like it previously was, so i guess it still is solved at least for me

my interim fix was to demolish all of the track and rebuild the intersection nearly the same as it was before.
It may also have been an interaction from the bridge as well, as I previously built the track segments directly onto the bridge.

this new configuration works currently
let me try loading it
I did it 3 minutes ago, can't have
oh wait a minute
I might have provided the wrong save
that's very strange

I cannot replicate this. I loaded the autosave and this single-segment track no longer exists.
the fork all originates from teh same location now
thats' quite strange
got it. creating a fork from this 2nd track point causes the pathing issue.

will post saves in a moment
or... not
hmm now I can't replicate it at all
its possible I had a mixup due to that 1 track segment being reversed somehow
though its strange how I was able to force the trains through
but for now I cannot replicate
sorry for false alarm
I found another pathing bug. This train decided to attempt to path to a station that is not on the schedule, gave a warning saying it was unreachable despite it being possible to manually drive to, then a moment later switched back to the correct station and started driving. @Captain Jeremy

After about 10 loops without any problems and waiting for a train (using F11/Full Map View), I found this. Similar or identical problem. I have the latest version of the game.
OK thanks, I'd rather not give out the save game. I get messages every three seconds telling me everything's not going well. Hehe

The setup in the picture is from build Vo.7.1b and has been running at full speed for hours without any problems. However, it's not a steam train, but a diesel one.
