How would you do large ramps? Since their center hole is 2 tiles tall and they take more space vertically?
Ramp mismatch.
I suppose there would need to be multiple part options which would be interesting to make fit
They are not altering the ramps, they for the same reason they can't extend the existing train crossing without breaking the game altering the ramps now would break everyone's saves. Easiest solution would be a new separate variant of the different width
Naturally, the old ramps need to remain in game. But they can add new ramps. And maybe make the old ramps unbuildable in new games.
I really think that would be a step backwards, i understand some people want to paint in the middle of a square instead of a line either side but then nothing else would line up, the bulk of the game is designed on a 2block system so every single dug ramp wouldn't align with roads, every forestry zone wouldn't align they already have multiple width choices available for train crossings just make additional, or mirror the varient system with different width ramp too for ppl who are using a 1block system
What if we made the large crossing one tile wider, and removed the small one? Would anyone miss the small level crossing?
I'm currently using some of them & they're in a very tight spot,
where I can't put the current large one (not to mention the widened version).
So I'm uncertain, but it's a solution to this issue,
that seemed like it would never progress, so I might just agree anyway.
New ramps that fit the level crossings could come in Update 4, I hope. I don't think the level crossings themselves need to be changed, but the ramps do — and this could also be a good opportunity to give them a makeover.

While having both even number of tiles does help, it still doesn't allow the nice painted line in the middle like an actual road. That being said, its only an aesthetic want, and what you suggest does seem like a good compromise. It would also help prevent any confusion about allowing large vehicles going over tracks. Just one type of crossing for all vehicles.
Perhaps the aesthetics could be addressed via more available markings to allow painting more realistic road markings?
Maybe even some cool road signs could be added, something that takes a couple steel to build. Though that's probably going beyond the scope of the game.
We don't even have people models lol.
And trucks don't even follow lanes when building roads. Its probably a nightmare to code to allow us to design vehicle lanes.
Although I would say ramps should get a makeover. They could use some built-in markings like railroad crossings.
Maybe even a more concrete color instead of black.
