High steam in the Desalinator produces 78 water, not 72.

Low and super steam produce 72 water, but high steam produces 6 more.

I'm torn because maybe there's a reason for this but I got no idea.

michi_cc · 1 year ago

Because it takes 12 steam, I.e. just sum up the numbers left and right for the reason.

I will say that Vaccum desal while the numbers add up, is a very ugly recipe.

If it took 18 seawater, it would be a bit nicer so you could have 1 pump feed 6 desals.

This works as intended, less water due to less steam condensed

reedemthed3ad [discord] · 1 year ago

Right, that wasn't the issue, it was how the pumps don't align well to the desalinators with the 108->15. It could be changed to add 3 more brine to keep the equation balanced?

The inconsistent thing here is that Brine from low steam is 3x as salty as seawater, whereas brine from super/high and vacuum desal are less salty at 2.57x and 2.5x respectively, assuming all salt in the seawater goes into the brine.

reedemthed3ad [discord] · 1 year ago

Yeah, kinda strange that it takes 72 seawater ant not 108.

and therefor means less brine

kayser_ [discord] · 1 year ago

it's less brine but it must be more concentrated brine

reedemthed3ad [discord] · 1 year ago

contaiminated with what? And something that isn't in the other brines? How? And where does this contamination go? How do you filter it from salt?

dukelion. [discord] · 1 year ago

sum of steam+salt water on the left matches water+brine on the right

so steam turns into water, and seawater is split into brine+fresh water in the same proportion

makes total sense to me

kayser_ [discord] · 1 year ago

ok, then: how many % salt is in the seawater and brine, respectively?

what I'm saying is, the total amount of salt on each side does not add up

for the depleted steam - 24 water comes from steam, 9 water comes from the sea and 6 brine, 24+9=33
water to brine ratio is 3:2
for the super steam - 6 steam makes 6 water, and 108 seawater is split into 66 freshwater + 42 brine, 3.1:2 - almost the same

While we're talking about salt can i mention how unbalanced the evaporation pond to salt feels? It's terrible

They are talking about the Sea water-s Brine concentration: Sperheated steam: 42 Brine / 108 Sea water ~= 38.8% High pressure steam: 42 Brine / 108 Sea water ~= 38.8% Low pressuresteam: 24 Brine / 72 Sea water ~= 33.3% Depleated steam: 6 Brine / 15 Sea water == 40%
If one were to fix this such for example all recipes produce 33.3% Brine from Sea water, one would get: Sperheated steam: 108 Sea water * 33.3% => 36 Brine (+ 72 Water) (suprisingly water output remained the same) High pressure steam: 108 Sea water * 33.3% => 36 Brine (+ 78 Water) (suprisingly water output remained the same) Low pressuresteam: 72 Sea water * 33.3% => 24 Brine (+ 72 Water) (no change) Depleated steam: 15 Sea water * 33.3% => 5 Brine (+ 34 Water)(the resulting water numbers include water from the steam used in the process)

42 brine is a very strange number that doesn't fit with brine recipes.
