Chem plant not running recipe #2

and the progress bar instantly turning full green, something is fishy

If I had to guess, this behaviour depends on recipes having different output type combinations,
but in this particular case both recipes have identical output types, which breaks this.

It's different amounts, and the top one will run if it has room for 15.. that green bar, wherever it comes from, could be pausing it long enough so that it can run the top recipe since it only needs room for an extra 5 liquid.

eryk500 [discord] · 1 year ago

But there is never enough room before it starts running (at least in this case).

jemsterr [discord] · 1 year ago

Yeah, the indicater seems to be showing that, but I'm not so sure.

kayser_ [discord] · 1 year ago

Top recipe starts executing the moment the buffer empties to 15 (meaning there is room for 15 more)

jemsterr [discord] · 1 year ago

The top recipe appears to start (at 100%) the moment it hits 10 free, which should be activating the bottom recipe.
I prefer it doing this, tbf.. I would want the bottom recipe to activate only if there aren't inputs rather than room.

kayser_ [discord] · 1 year ago

Well, that is not the current design, and it would break some other builds that rely on the logic of restricted output--like the CO2 plant above

jemsterr [discord] · 1 year ago

Can you let the water in the other example fully back up?
It seems to run the bottom recipe if it gets to the end of the recipe and there is still room then (it never goes red - at least not in the video).. what happens if neither can run, and then the bottom one turns orange?

@DeletedAccount Can you dig into this behaviour and explain it? You seem to understand this better.

So, if I restrict the water output to 1/60, you will see the third recipe executing (just like intended), while it waits for the buffer to empty.

jemsterr [discord] · 1 year ago

Same experiment, but turn off the third recipe.

Have it sitting there doing nothing with a full output.

jemsterr [discord] · 1 year ago

Block the Fuel gas output for a moment so the top recipe runs, then try it again with the water backed up.

jemsterr [discord] · 1 year ago

Okay, so when you have the top one running, let both the fuel/ethanol outputs empty quickly, and see what happens with the backed up water.

Trying to see if it has something to do with which recipe was active first, or something.

I need to cook lunch for my family

here is the test set-up

I've played with the chemplant on the fert and the chemplant on the ethanol/fuelgas and they don't behave the same.
At all.
Only DeletedAccount can explain what the green bar in the fertiliser video in the OP is doing there, I think.

When the buffer is full here, at 21/30, nothing should happen because neither recipe can make anything, this is working as intended.

The next tick, the buffer now has 10 space, and the second recipe is 10 output, it should run the second recipe in this picture because there is space in the output.

However for some strange reason, it has decided that, it is going to do the first recipe instead.

it knows it doesn't have enough space for the recipe, and shows 100% finished, but the recipe never started, because it couldn't start, so it never switches the progress bar back to 0% or picks the second recipe because it thinks it's doing the first recipe

since the first recipe is considered "active", no other recipes can be chosen, and it waits until the buffer has enough space, then proceeds with the recipe
