Trains get removed from request schedule due to bug

so here's an example of a full destination. and you're correct it waits in the parking with the original target station still in that train's schedule.

image.jpg

the buggy behavior I expereinced is that instead of waiting in parking

it is entirely removed from the schedule entirely

where that is NOT supposed to happen

you will note in my save my train has no destination at all

and looking at the station, it is not one of the 3 trains that are scheduled to arrive at the station

the bugged train is in limbo

If a train has no destination (which gets re-eveluated frequently during
the / a / any trains journey to a destination station) then it won't go to a station.

You should prevent that from ever happening, by making sure that there is never a moment
that this can happen; for example you should add/configure stations to always accept trains
that it requests & never try to cancel those requests (because of the arrival condition
suddenly not being fullfilled anymore).

yeah this request station #4 with the non-integer is functioning totally differently now

image.jpg

that field prob should only accecpt integers

that's not how it works in my experience

in this example of 3 trains being requested, the third train will continue to go to the requesting station even if the requesting station empties out

and the third train will wait at the station until it is full of cargo

the dispatcher simply will not request any further trains until the "full" condition is met

we can see an example of that happening here

image.jpg

this is the third train that was dispatched when the station was full, it is arriving to the station now

even though the station is no longer full

and now that it is leaving after being full, the station will not request any new trains until it has triggered the scheduler (filling up)

🤔, I'll have a closer look at this tommorow, as I both tired & have to sleep now.

I have this problem as well, a train in route whill have an earlier train fulfill the request. then the train just stops wherever it is. clogging up up traffic around it. Trains once leave the station should not stop until its at another station. Traffic not withstanding.

Its like on way to shop you realize your wife picked up what you need, you just don't put it park in the middle of the road until you think of somewhere else to go. You go the shop anyway, go to different shop, or return home.

A destination should only change if another replaces it, not jkust be removed.

Preventing the request from being completed before arrival cannot be prevented, outside limiting one train per station. as the no way to limit two trains (Or more) with same material with a station from coming.

eryk500 [discord] · 11 months ago

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. That makes total sense to me.

slopth [discord] · 11 months ago

Completely disagree

Trains should not just stop on the tracks outside of a station

Blocking your entire network

galdo145 [discord] · 11 months ago

if there is no station able to accept them, what are they supposed to do? in F they will skip that train stop, and go to the next one on the list instead if the station they are going to forces a repath, but driving around in circles on your network for no reason sounds even worse than stopping and having you reconsider your choices

raciper [discord] · 11 months ago

The problem is when you have a stop that accepts multiple goods and multiple train lines, there is always a chance that the it will request two or more trains from the same line when it can only use one. If there is no place for the second train to go, it will just stop on the track where ever it is. This will clog up the entire network as it will just stop where ever the second train happens to be. IMHO train should only set its destination when it readies to leave the station. it can change routes based on traffic, but should arrive at where its headed. If the station becomes un-reachable. then it should stop require manual intervention to change its destination or access to the station restored. I find the train changing destinations mid route just annoying when it does work correctly..

This seems to be an issue mostly with materials that are slow to use or create but have limited destinations. I have come up with two work arounds, One is for things that are produced with other material and delivered to places that have other materials. I have to put a wait stop for the rest when its full and a what stop to wait when its empty (it can be same stop). that is where the train goes to wait for it to finish it route. can only be one train on the line for it to work. The other is to have a "every train has a home" policy. where every train has a place to sit when its not in use and for them, I have a rally point a priority 15 set it can go if all destination are complete. If its a shipping train it waits at the load station and only leaves when there is a place to go, if the second leaves the station before the first arrives and is not needed the rally point is always an option, then return still full. The opposite for collection trains, where it will go to rally point and just return empty.

Then correctly set the train limit on that problem station.

At least in that particular case I'd say that it's 💯 just
a station misconfiguration problem & not a bug.

raciper [discord] · 11 months ago

Is there a configurtation I am missing that allows multiple trains but only one from each line. In this case the train is getting 8 different products coming from all over the map, if I limit to one train request at a time some of the longer routes will take longer than somne of the high use materials are used up.

eryk500 [discord] · 11 months ago

Then add a stacker before that station,
in order to have a higher upper train limit.

You should never use your main line as a train "parking" space,
which is what you are doing (or at least allowing for) when a station's
train limit exceeds the physical train capacity that station has.

raciper [discord] · 11 months ago

I did have a station for each material, but it was ugly enough to make me want to quit the game.

The trains have plenty of room to stack. the problem is when I multiple have to trains coming for same product and only need one load, the second one if I am only consumer, will just stop where ever it is. I have worked arround this by haveing an additional lowq priority fake spot just to let the network move, only issue then the trains are always moving.

The bug is that trains drop there destination mid route and just stop. That should not happen, if the destination is still accessable it should continue. just because it no longer meets conditions is not a reason to just stop where it is.

eryk500 [discord] · 11 months ago

Well, if the station is litheraly saying that it can't accept a train
(that's what the arrival conditions mean & are for),
then what are the trains supposed to do?

It's just that this (relatively rare) edge case was not handled right,
because there could be different good answers to this problem
(like the workaround you just mentioned) based on the situation.

raciper [discord] · 11 months ago

It can accept the train it just doesn't need it any more. So the train pass through and nothing happens and the network continues.

Stopping mid route should only be reserved when the station cannot be accesses, like broke track or station removed.

eryk500 [discord] · 11 months ago

That's like the 3-rd option that you yourself provided:

  • Stop at station regardless of the fact that the train
    can't be accepted & wait for it to be handled anyways;
  • Go through the station & continue to the next stop;
  • Go to other, special station that might normally be
never be a part of the schedule for the given
train "line" "stop" in normal operation.

This somehow would have to be settable by the user;
I just have no idea how would one implement the UI for this;
and without that, this can't be implemented.

I can agree with you on those instances at least 👍.

There might be more edge-case situations for this to be applicable,
but the "bug" is certainly not one of these situations.

Like the train might stop, because it's maintenance
has run out on difficult-enough difficulty settings.

raciper [discord] · 11 months ago

The first two are how it should work, but doesn't because because the train stops mid-route. the last one puts an artificial demand on the train and the train will deliver to the waive off track when there is no real demand. Adding traffic to the network that is un-needed. The ideal is to keep items at the ready to be delivered at the station, not going around in loops waiting for when needed. It does stop the stop mid route, For now limiting to one train for problem items, as there are only a couple. and have ready-to-fill and ready-to-deliver queues. for things with multiple sources and destinations.

there are lots reasons a cannot get to station once started, just the station does not need it anymore, should not be one of them.
