aww bruh, well ok
Good to know tho, and I feel like this either needs to be changed or better explained. I wonder what the reason for the finite throughput was bc I can't think of one.

It's niche, I can only guess it would be trivialising station design if all modules shared an inventory.
I don't think the need to use this port over that one should be left in on purpose since it hardly counts as something at adds depths to "station design". Also, the dev diary that revealed this feature didn't mention a throughput limit, so it might get thrown around in the future that you don't need to use more than 1 port on a station when that's only really true for short stations or throughput-insensitive transit routes.
This was introduced so that small differences in draw/supply between belts/attached storage doesn't cause trains to get hung up at a station, not so that high throughput materials can be funneled through connections to only one or two modules. For instance, a storage IV attached directly to station modules will not pull evenly from those modules, so in the old system, some of the modules needed to be drained completely before the others would even start to empty, leading to uneven unloading. The balancing prevents that.
I didn't know the origin story and don't dout what you said, but the problem is this bit from the 4.1 dev blog:

I read this in my mind as "it is no longer ever necessary to connect more modules unless you actually need the sockets" - as in Station Modules themselves have effectively infinite throughput (or something extremely high similar to Storages).
I was gonna use connectors to connect 6 belts to a single module at some point - to shorten belts and compact builds at. It wouldn't have worked, and would probably be pretty easy to tell from the belts not filling up, but my mind was able to go there because of how they sold it here.
Looking back, they didn't explicitly say what I assumed, but still, the screenshot felt like they were trying to make us use this feature that way.
I wonder whether or not it was actually their intent for the capacity of stations to do this to be limited, or it was some technical issue that forces them to cap it at 400/m...
