I played a bit with it and the first question which pops in my mind is: Is there a way to estimate the finished outline which occures on the surface after all mining is done during the planning phase? Like it is shown in the screenshot.

Yes, the mod predicts the shape using an approximation. It’s not using the game’s physics engine as that would be too compute heavy.
The shape is used to check for ocean, buildings, other designations, and map edge, which all have to be considered.
Nice to hear, that this shape is already predicted. My question was, is there a way to show this shape where it hits the surface? To get a feeling how much free space is needed before I can place a bulding or belts.
