Multi-player

Personally, I think it shouldn't be a question of whether you'll make multiplayer, but in what style. I bought the game myself, otherwise 3 people would have bought it if it had multiplayer.
I would prefer:
1. Start on the same island, each with their own company, the ability to trade with each other (optionally joint research or each with their own). Basically something like the companies in TTD.
2. Everyone starts on a different island, each with their own company, the ability to trade with each other. The ability to visit and look at another player's island.
Here it would probably be difficult to determine which server/client would calculate what and who would send what data.
3. Play together as one "company" where everything is shared. Probably the easiest option. Problem with resetting priorities... by friends. Here there would have to be at least some definition of who can set the machines, buildings (player 1, player 2, undefined - when anyone can set it).

I have not played CoI since mid-2024 because of the lack of co-op. Co-op, starting on an island and building together, would bring me back. I play similar types of games with my Uncle (Factorio, Satisfactory, 7D2D) where shared winning is the name of the game. This game is so incredible single player, I want to share the experience with another like-minded individual!

Multiplayer in simulation games like CoI always suffer from the problem of game progress: the more players the slower the progress (slower average game speed). This is creating frustration either for the players waiting for a player who needs the game paused for some planning or the other way round players feel time pressed. Usually progress is much faster in single player mode. How can this be solved? In a first "light" implementation of multiplayer there could be some sort of trading island (like the ai settlements), where players can do quick trades, which only get active the moment they are placed - independent of everyone's game speed setting. In a later step players could maybe watch other players' islands via something like "streaming" (in the watched players' game speed).
This way the multiplayer is working in the background and the players have the singleplayer experience together in one session, even with different developed islands for every player.

If a friend could manage a half of my island with shared everything - nice.

I have a gaming group of 6 and we would all buy and play if it was multiplayer.

The group I play with each have own interests with the island.
Some like making rail networks,
Some like optimizing factories.
Some like optimizing power stations.
Some like really studying and optimizing the trade contracts.
We liked Satisfactory we could work on an objective while another works one. we decided as group what should be done. Some players just like making it look nice. I miss multiplayer in CoI, and is why I played Foundry first after Satisfactory.

Multiplayer are available. One person game some time , saved, send save your friend, friend game, return save. Repeat.
But would be better playing real time with automatically save synchronization

Even released as DLC, I would 100% purchase this with a friend
